Default My Goldeneye N64 cart doesn't work...help please

I just got it used. Isn't it unusual for carts to fail? I thought they were really rugged.

Could my N64's RAM expansion be interfering with the cart's loading?

Are you sure the connector's not dirty at all? RAM Expansion pak shouldn't interfere at all, the extra memory would be ignored.

Static electricity can kill even the most durable electronics. It's possible someone was improperly handling the Golden Eye cart before you go tit, or lightening struck someone's hopuse and fried the N64 and the game. (Lightening *is* static electricity to the tune of gigawatts of electricity)

If you bought it from the store, take it back for an exchange. If you got it at garage sale, you might as well forget about it.

I bought it via amazon.com's marketplace, so I'll definitely get my money back. If necessary I'll just call Discover and have them charge it back.

I would try cleaning it, but I don't want the guy to accuse me of modifying it. So, I'll just leave it as is.

I'm also having a problem with another N64 cart. It wasn't shipped! Funny that... I ordered 20 PS1 games from private sellers, and they all arrived in peak condition. I buy 5 N64 carts and 2 people screw me. I guess PS1 owners are just more honest/trustworthy.

Stores often reject returns if it appears the customer made modifications. Ditto car dealers. Right now I'm trying to get a *brand-new* engine repaired because the throttle was poorly machined (it sticks). They claim that it's "user error"which is of course nonsense. I'll probably have to fix it myself.

Anyway, people will do anything to avoid honoring warranties on sold merchandise. Just look at http://www.consumeraffairs.org for more examples. Like the Toyota Sienna engine that dies at ~20,000 miles due to oil sludge. Toyota refuses to acknowledge the problem exists even though thousands of engines are dying prematurely.

P.S. One more thought: I don't think it's dirty contacts. They are still nice and shiny.

I just took a closer look. The contacts are shiny but all scratched-up. It looks like someone inserted and withdrew the cartridge about a million times.

I think I'll avoid used in the future.
