Default List of old games that could save?

I was wondering if anybody knew of a list or at least an easy way to find out which old games had some type of saved game functionality?

I give games a very quick test before selling them, and for most games I know if they have a saved game function, but I had one slip through that I did not know could save (Tony La Russa Baseball 95), and it turned out the battery was dead.

In regards to the N64 I've found this very useful:

Lots of C64/Atari/Apple games had save game facilities, too numerous to mention.

As for cart games, I know that Dragonslayer on the Epoch Super Cassettevision was the first cart with 'save game' option via a built in battery.

Well, is the question which games can save or which games have batteries? And what's your cut-off for "old"? Or do you mean anything cartridge-based? Because going off of your concerns, only batteries have any legitimate risk of being dead. I mean, theoretically a game with EEPROM or Flash saving could die, but it's very unlikely. With the N64, there are only 12 games that use batteries. With GBA, it's a limited number as well. For N64, here's a list of the 12: http://n64.icequake.net/mirror/www.e...ve_faq.html#s5

One problematic game I know is Shining Force 2, Genesis. I think there was just a large shipment with defective batteries or something. As for batteries, you can always try reconnecting them by loosening the body (or as a pro you probably have that star-ratchet thing needed to fully remove so many), wherein you'll see a disk battery suspended twixt to thin, flexible conductors: press these conductors against as firmly as possible, then close the body without its snapping shut. Perhaps there is some form of electrical glue that would help this process. The batteries rarely die, but you could also likely replace them. Sorry, I'm not a technician, just a once destructive adolescent.

Shining force 1 also had battery issues, 4 of my 6 copies have dead batteries that died within a year or so of the game being new.

defenders of oaisis on gg is pretty awful batterywise too.

Thank you for the responses so far.

My main concern is just trying to get a list of all games which had a battery based save (for NES/SMS through N64).

I'm dealing with such a large volume of games that I cannot open them all up to check for a battery, so having a list that I can reference when testing if the games will boot up would be an excellent resource.
