Post Dragon Warrior 7, Sell or start new collection?

    Hey all,

I just found a Dragon Warrior 7 for $4.99 in great condition. One small problem, I don't own a PSX anymore. I'm tempted to just go buy a PS1 just for this game. But I'm already collecting Atari 7800, NES, Genesis and Gamecube. I'm not sure my women would be happy about a new shelf with PSX games.

What do you think? This might be a great way to start the best of PSX ( oh no! )

    Any advice would be helpful

Do it! PSX Favorite console of all time, you really cannot go wrong with it's amazing library. ESPECIALLY if you are an RPG fan . Good luck!

Second that! I just recently started collecting again and am starting with my favorite, the PSX. Collect for it, sneak a little in at a time and hope you can slide it past her.

Excellent system, but be prepared to pay some asinine prices for certain titles, specially RPG's.

    Otherwise, fantastic system.

Get a PS2. I would say even over a PS3, regardless of HD. The PS2 library is simply spectacular, just like the PSX. PS3, eh, so far its ok at best.

People talk as if you have unlimited free time. The PlayStation has extremely time-intensive games. Getting a PS2 will compound your problem, and you will end up playing very little due to being overwhelmed.

If you find you do not have enough time to play the systems you currently own, then I would pass on the PlayStation. However, if you literally have spare time, then yes, it is a great system. Although, I suspect that you sold your original PlayStation collection for a reason, so maybe you should stick with that decision.

PSones are like 5 dollars all day. Games are the same size as CD's. I don't see a problem.

Why not grab a PS2 instead? There are a number of great titles for dirt cheap, as you just found out, for both.

If you can spare a little more money, I recommend getting a PS2. Wonderful system and can be found pretty cheap. You would be able to play both PS1 and PS2 games on the system.

I totally recommend collecting for the PS1. Games are found everywhere, and prices can be found pretty cheap.

Do NOT collect for the PSX. Get a system, play the game you have (DW7 is the shit), then pick up another when you've beaten it. Savor the games on the PSX, they are amazing. If I could only pick one console to play for the rest of my life, it would be that one. Has a little bit of everything. Theres some great 2D gaming, horror, RPG, platformers... just an all-around great console packed w/ great games.

PS1s are the cheapest consoles you can buy nowadays. In fact, you'll find them cheaper that your actual game. Go for it.

I second the motion by Bend... QuickSciFi. PlayStations are a dime a dozen and have only recently been usurped in cheap availability by GameCubes. Dragon Warrior 7 is a challenging and very long game and if you can tolerate the olden days difficulty and the many hours required to go through to completion then go nuts. However, you can get a pretty good return on DW7 if you look around so really you need to find out if the game is for you or not.

One more vote for the PS2. It just makes more sense to me. You don't have to go all out starting up a ps1/2 collection. Play through a game (or to a stopping point) and pick up the next one. The RPG library for each is outstanding. If you are collecting to play then follow my advice. If you're collecting to collect, then you're going to have a TON of games to be on the look out for!

I'd say get a PS2. They're more mechanically sound than the PS1 and can play PS2 games (duh!) which is something you'll want because Dragon Quest VIII is the best game in the series (IMHO). Most PS1's you find these days have dead laser assemblies and tend to break easily with too much use.

I like the Dragon Warrior series, so I think you should buy a PSX, play the game to its fullest, and go from there ^_^

i would say go with a slimline ps2 so its nice and small, quiet, and an absolutely massive amount of fantastic games. Going with a ps2 also gets you component output for your ps1 games.

But not all PS1 games will play in component I've noticed. Like R-Type. I actually prefer the PS2 phat over the slim. It seems to be a bit more fancy and reliable - it's built like a tank. I've noticed also that the slim doesn't like some DVD's, especially burned ones - but maybe it was just the one that I had.
