Default Sega Saturn Action Replay Plus Question.

I know there are two models of this, one with a comm port and one without. I'm a newbie to this and would like to know if there is any difference between the two beside the port which I'm not really sure what it does. And is one better than the other? Thanks for any information anyone can supply.

Functionality wise I don't believe there is any difference besides that serial port. As for what the serial port does, I believe there is someone on these boards that sells cables that can interface with the cart while it's plugged into the Saturn.

Essentially it gives you way to hook the device up to your PC so you can back up/modfy the save files. I'm not exactly positive about this, since I remember reading about this through a link in someone's signature at one point.

Unfortunately, the newer ARP carts no longer have the communication port (probably to save money).

Like xelement5x said, the communication port is mainly for connecting to a PC. You can read about it at my website. Aside from the communication port, the new ARP carts are the same as the old.

It is for connecting to a PC (transfer game-saves, download homebrews, ...etc). You need a special cable to interface it to a PC, though. This is the device I make here: http://www.gamingenterprisesinc.com/DataLink/

Most importantly, though, the original comms link was for searching for your own cheat codes. Unlike the GB or SFC Action Replay, the Saturn and PSX ARs couldn't run searches from the consoles themselves. They needed this finicky communication port business.

(At least the Saturn X-Terminator device had its own LCD box tethered to the cartridge so you could search for codes with it.)
