i want to import monster hunter Frontire for the Xbox 360.
it is an online only game realeased only in japan, i am in australia would i be able to connect to the network and play if i had a japanese xbox 360?

i think the answer to this would be yes. but you also need to pay for online service, so you'd have to buy Japan MS points or have some kind of credit card. however im not sure just any credit card would do, so i'd get the points.

But there's also the IP region block the game servers have. I don't know whether this affects Australia, but for the US it won't let people connect, even with Japanese 360 and appropriate payment. Though some people from California have claimed to be lucky enough to have an IP that the servers will allow conection from.
