Right. Japan somehow did not receive the 8bit version of TMNT Tournament Fighters.

And for some reason the SFC version was renamed Mutant Warriors, while the Mega Drive version kept the original name.

(it's up there on my list of games I want but can't find at a reasonable price)
The prices are only meant as a general guide. The price of Moon Crystal is based largely on trends on Yahoo Japan and Japanese importers who occasionally have it for sale. The prices are also based on cart only copies.

Nice to see Vice Project Doom in a top 50 I actually like it more than Ninja Gaiden. It got placed on the list right next to my favorite Mega Man game too.

Figured as much. I guess I'd be unable to get that without an import service I guess, making it pretty much $90-100 for me in the end.
(last I saw a loose cart was on ebay for the game and two commons and went for about $90)

Good, but Contra was never called Gryzor in Japan. That's just the sad title the arcade and home computer ports got in Europe.

Ah good eye. IIRC the European arcade version was called Gryzor and the home versions Probotector. I'll have to edit that when I get a chance.

I'm ashamed to admit I only own one of those titles from #29-20.

    Ninja Gaiden II

I used to own Contra, but where it's at now, who knows.. I definitely don't have it anymore. Duck Tales I rented as a kid, lots of fun. It's been on my wishlist since 2005 (when I suddenly decided I'd start collecting NES games), but somehow I never get around to purchasing it.

well, hopefully this list will serve as impersonation to get it again. I find of any system, NES games tend to have a great deal of eternal staying power despite its age.

Free bump. I've really been enjoying your list; it's quite well done. You've helped me discover some hidden gems I'd never heard of. I'm looking forward to the last two entries, and seeing if my favorites are on there. I won't go berserk if they're not. Well, maybe a little. Keep up the great work!

    I hate you!

I love the NES, and I'm always looking for new games to try that I may not have known about. I had stuff to do, like sleep. Now I have to read all of this instead.

But really, good stuff and thanks for putting in all that effort. This is going to take me a long time to read through.

Thanks. I appreciate it. I'm sure that there are many people here on digitalpress that would love my article, so I hope the lack of the replies doesn't mean lack of interest.

Where do you suggest? I'd love to spread my work with as many people as possible not so much for the personal gratification but because I really do think a lot of retro gamers would love to read this top 100 list.
