Default Best Games for Super Game Boy

I picked up a Super Game Boy recently for $5, but I don't own any Game Boy games! This must be corrected.

My experience with the Game Boy is pretty much limited to Tetris, Link's Awakening, Final Fantasy Legend III and Pokemon Blue. Out of the four, Legend III is the only one I'm looking to re-obtain since I never got too far back in the day.

I'm looking for some titles that would benefit from being on a larger screen, but also won't break the bank. So toss out the names of a few grey and black cart titles please!

The reason I never finished it was because the sound failed on my Game Boy Color, not a lack of interest. Although cel-shaded graphics sound interesting I'm not too fond of polygonal RPGs on the DS. Final Fantasy III/IV just didn't make me want to keep playing. It's strange considering I loved a lot of RPGs on the PlayStation.

Adventures of Lolo oddly didn't reach the US Game Boy. If you can find a PAL copy at a good price, it's SGB enhanced unlike its JPN version.

I'll also add that Space Invaders has a special SNES chip/board that really utilizes the SNES's capabilities. $5 buy it now price on ebay plus shipping.

I heard that special mode is even region locked similar to full SNES games.

Not many users realize just how much SNES hardware access SGB had. An emulator must run both SNES and Game Boy simultaneously to behave like the actual SGB unit does.

No Game Boy games? Definitely pick up these, even if some may not be enhanced by the SGB:

    Super Mario Land
    Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
    Donkey Kong ('94)
    Mega Man V

Hmm, I've got Akazukin ChaCha and I had no clue it had support for the Super GameBoy. I'm gonna have to pull that out and mess around with it now! Did I read right that JP GameBoy games aren't locked with the SGB?

If the list posted isn't good enough and you want experience from people, here it is.....

Space Invaders and Donkey Kong are the two that take greatest advantage of the Super Game Boy in my opinion.

Just make sure you get the correct version of each game, since I remember Nintendo had possibly released 2 versions of Space Invaders on the old Gameboy. EGM & Gamepro promoted it as an upcoming release in 1990 or 1991 and then in 1994, it was apparently on the release schedule for the GB again.

Agree 1000000%, especially about Mega Man V. It's somewhat rare at this point, but definitely worth it if you can get a copy. Pretty much any of the 3 Mario Land games will suffice as well. My personal favorite is Mario Land 3, the one starring Wario.

Operation C is a good choice if you're like me and dig Contra games. If you need to do some exploring and metroid killing, Metroid II is another sound choice. In fact, the box art for the Super Gameboy actually has a picture of Metroid II on the front, and Metroid II was pretty much advertised with the Super Gameboy. If you're into Kirby, Kirby II is a pretty good game as well. For Castlevania, I thought Belmonts Revenge was pretty decent all around. While you're at it, you may as well pick up Tetris if you can. That game is dirt cheap. There's also a selection of arcade style games like Space Invaders and Burgertime Deluxe. There's also one particular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game for the GB that I thought was actually pretty good, but unfortunately I'm not clear on which one that is. I'll edit or post later if I figure it out.

Bear in mind most of the games I posted are not really enhanced by the Super Gameboy as much as Donkey Kong 94, but they play quite well on it.

This. The Super Gameboy justifies the time/money you may spend to get this game. It's an excellent game on its own but the SGB makes it shine.

Excellent. I can't even get games as common as Tetris for less than $10 locally, and I don't own Space Invaders in any other format.
