Default Consoles without updates - a rare future item?

I was wondering since nowadays you can download dashboard and system software updates, and more or less have to for the PS3 and X360, I was wondering if a sort of niche rarity in the future might be brand new consoles that haven't been updated. IE; buying an Xbox 360 that still uses the original blade menu from it's launch days.

I know in regards to hacking PSPs and iPhones, firmware is a big deal, or at least was when I was researching it a few months ago. It was tough to go back so hardware with older firmware/software was sought after more than a regular up to date unit.

    Any thoughts on this?

I don't know about the Xbox, but most of the updates for the PS3 are for the following:

    1. Further reinforce copy protection and patch existing bugs that allow users to bypass it.

    2. Fix bugs with Blu-ray playback and allow for more Blu-ray related features.

    3. Fix bugs with PSN/PlayStation store, and allow for more PSN/PlayStation Store related features.

    4. Further reinforce copy protection and patch existing bugs that allow users to bypass it.

    So I'm guessing no.

Only for PS3 linux. And by then more powerful/expandable/etc PCs in a far smaller form factor than the PS3 will be readily found cheaper.

To have the first version of firmware would be a severe hindrance to use. Rare only because it's pretty nutty.

If you are not going to run the up-to-date FW version, you'd be better served to have CFW.

Why would you bother? As if it is really that hard to wire in a xD card into a 360 and run old firmware. Running it 24/7 with the original blades would be moronic and you'd either run it for kicks or figure out how to patch games to not mind the fact someone is a hoarder.
I fix things. You name it, I'll work on it. Want something modded? Recapped?

I don't see them being particularly valuable, but I could see a few really dedicated collectors being interested in the various interfaces.
For XBOX 360, a JTAG modded unit could run just about any firmware, so I think that would be the better option.
I'm not so sure about the PS3. Mods seem to have stopped at 3.55.
