There is a transfer cable available that will allow you to transfer the contents from your existing hard drive to a slim Xbox 360.

If you don't want to do that, get the system repaired by Microsoft again, remove the hard drive from its casing to use it on a slim, or locate a replacement non-slim model that will accept the existing hard drive as is.

Those are your options for maintaining your content.

Isn't it funny how Xbox fans repeatedly pay to have their systems repaired or buy a new system entirely? If my system failed more than once, I'd want my money back.

Must not have been a big fan of the original Playstation then. I went through 7 of them.

Still have my system from Day 1. I do not see anything funny about that.

Really? Mine still works perfectly, and I used it a lot for the first few years after I got it.

it depends on the location and everything when it comes to RROD's on really any system sony or microsoft related.

If you leave your system on a carpeted floor they say it will intake whatever shits on the floor and clog it up causing it burn out.
or if you live in a dirty enviroment and refuse to clean the unit. it will intake dirt/dust particles eventually enough to gum up and burnout components.
tight spaces with little air flow
sitting next to something say like a heater

If you live in a dust free spotless enviroment like some kinda Germ-a-phobe or bubble boy. and use common sense. then you will probably never seen this wonderous defect

Or better yet, buy a Game Boy. That's even cheaper than a Genesis most of the time.

Pretty much. Target is currently clearancing out the transfer kits for $14 and amazon has them even cheaper but then you need to factor in shipping.

My Jasper board 360 still works great but eventually I'm going to upgrade to the slim so I'll need to get one of those transfer kits for myself as well.

I think when I get to playing the 360 often, if I don't have the slim by then and just want to switch over when I do get the unit, I'll just finish whatever game I was working on on my original Elite unit and start over the next time I want to play it again. I don't go online yet anyway and I always record my gaming footage so no big deal if I lose my save and want to see the areas again.

I think if I do go online it would be after getting a slim because I am not going to buy that wireless internet adapter for my current 360. It would be a waste of money to. I can't believe those things used to be $100.

All because "You can't trust the system!!!" Just like that comedy rap song "I Threw It On The Ground!!!"

Leaving any system on a carpeted floor is a bad idea (though everyone tended to do it back in the 16-bit era and earlier) but it's downright crazy with a 360. They don't have enough cooling as it is, let alone with vents blocked by carpet and the lack of clearance on the bottom.

The Bally Astrocade was another one that you really didn't want to put on the carpet or your bed. It was pretty dumb having vents on the bottom with that one.

Is the transfer cable the same from the original one? For the record. I know of no one with the original xbox launch 360 or launch ps1 that still works or didn't need repair.

I've never had my original PSX completely die, it wouldn't read discs sometimes, quite some time after the PS2 was released, but it would work after a second or third try. I still have my PS2 and it hasn't had a problem since I've bought it. Even my NES still works fine, although it doesn't read many games as quickly as it did before.

The PSP is the only system I've had that has had a problem. The UMD drive on both my original and 2000 is no longer working, however the system itself works and has no other problems. It's like owning a PSP Go since I can't use UMD. I now own a PSP 3000 that I use only to rip games in order to play them.
Everything in the above post is opinion unless stated otherwise.

I'm assuming my launch 360 still works. I never hooked it up. It's funny; I got an XBOX360 the year it launched (it was a gift), but I never played a 360 until I got the red, Limited Edition Resident Evil one, years later. My original launch 360 is still sealed in the box.
