Anyone here play any of the Super Robot Wars titles?

The ones released in the US with original mechs or the Japanese ones with licensed mechs?
I have the N64 one and one of the NGPC SRW games, but I haven't played a whole lot of either. Rock solid series overall, though, so I aim to eventually add more to my collection.
Either or. Discovered thanks to /m/ other than the OG ones released here, there are English translations for a few others. Super Robot Wars J is fun!!

I'm bit a fan. I've played MX Portable, J, Z2 Chapter 1 OG1 and Endless Frontier.
I really love the fantastic arrangements of each show's theme (standouts being MX's renditions of RahXephon's opening and Z2's Gundam Wing arranges).
The PS3 one that's in the works looks amazing.
Really enjoying SRW J now. Game's easy, but it's really fun. Been messing with SRW 3 for the super famicom also. Out of most the games released, there's maybe 4 or 5 that have english patches for the roms, SRW3 and J being 2 of them.

Yeah, I'm going back to finish J now. I love the AI. If there's no chance of them hitting you, they'll just run up next to one of your mechs and sit there, doing nothing.
I'm glad this subject came up, I have Super Robot Wars IV: Scramble for PS1 for sale

Make me an offer.
Not many of these get a western release.
I'm guessing licencing issues?

Yeah, the ones that use licensed mechs are basically impossible to bring over. Only the ones with original mechs have been localized.
I've heard the name Super Robot Wars for many, many years now, but I never knew what type of games they were/are. Can someone, preferably a fan of the series, save me the keystrokes and give me an idea what SRW is?
Strategy RPGs with mechs, usually licensed from a whole slew of different anime shows. Sometimes also referred to as Super Robot Taisen.
More or less. They're pretty typical of the genre, so if you're already comfortable with strategy RPGs, they won't seem that foreign. Plus they have a pretty strong cult fan base, so most have FAQs on GameFAQs. And you could always start with the English ones (either the US releases or the patched ones) to get more familiar with the series before digging into one that's Japanese-only.
Like Aussie said. Go for any of the English-patched ones, or most the games you can find what the dialogue is in faqs that way, and then fast skip it all.
