    Default Langrisser/Warsong for PC-Engine CD

    Hi guys,

I'm looking for some information (and possibly a game ), do any of you know wether or not Warsong (japanese: Langresser) ever made it to the English shores?

I know it was released for Genesis, but when it comes to the PC-Engine version I'm facing conflicting data. The fact that I don't know of any definitive sources about the PC-Engine doesn't help

It didn't. Warsong on the Genesis is the only Langrisser game to ever come to North America.

    Since this topic is here:

If I was a Shining Force fan who was looking for more of the same, would Langrisser/Warsong be a good game to pick up?

Yes and no. If you want another strategy RPG, one that is also regarded as a classic, influential title/series for the genre, than yes, but Langrisser plays quite a bit different from Shining Force. Instead of commanding single units, you have generals that each command his/her own army of troops. You try to keep everybody roughly together in order to get stat bonuses and to protect the general, you buy new soldiers as you lose them, you can attack enemy generals first to wipe out everybody or eliminate all of his/her troops first for extra experience, etc.

So its more like Military Madness or Romance of the Three Kingdoms, something along those lines?

Saiyuki: Journey West on Playstation is a fantastic game which plays in the same style as Shining Force. In fact, I prefer Saiyuki over Shining Force III.

... I actually have Saiyuki. I hit myself for not considering it as an option.

Powerlevelling Son Goku and making him live up to his name is worth it a million times over.

personally I prefer being punched in the nuts over shining force 3.

but seriously, I picked up saiyuki when it was reprinted but never got around to it, now that smoene compares it to shining force, I may have to dig it out, thanks!

Saiyuki: Journey West does look like a sweet sweet game.... *on the backlog with it!*

I've never played it, so please tell me: what's wrong with Shining Force III (besides the whole "two-thirds of it are Japan-only" thing)?

I only played through it for the first time just last year. Despite that, my impressions aren't really fresh in my mind, I guess it was forgettable. The 3D polygon graphics are useless and clunky. It isn't a bad game by any means, and I certainly did get addicted to it at some point.
My biggest negative impressions of SFIII were that many of the battles took too long. I had to be sure to have at least an hour to an hour+half before trying to tackle another battle.

I'm just now discovering the Shining Force series actually (I mean, I had played it a long time ago, but never really went in-depth with it). It seems to me like Shining Force II is a bit of a step down from SF1, but then, I haven't gotten that far into it yet.

Shining Force II is fantastic, but, yeah, a lot of people still like the original just a bit better.

Langrisser made it to Mega Drive, PC Engine Turbo CD and Sega Saturn
Only Langrisser 1 was released as "Warsong" on Sega Genesis in the US, all others are Japan only ( but still playable due some help with gamefaqs )

The best Version is the PC Engine CD of Langrisser, and the Saturn Release Langrisser Dramatic 1&2.
