Default Battlefield 3 - Succes for Origin?

So, it is released now, and it broke sales records. I'm not sure about the specific numbers for the PC, but it sounds like a good start for origin, as BF3 is the first real big exclusive release. Personally i was hoping BF3 would die a horrible death and teach them a lesson, sadly this did not happen.

I wouldn't be surprised if EA would demand some urine samples and fingerprints soon. I strongly doubt that they match steam by the end of Q1 2012 as they said they will, but i'm curious if they still will stick with it, or if it will end soon, i hope for the later.

Any thought and opinions on this?

Theres rumors on the internets that you do not need to use Origin to play BF3 thanks to a certain expert in the field.

EA really pisses me off. The fact that I put an EA game in an Xbox 360 and have to go thru all that bullshit just to get the damn game to start. Needing a separate account with EA just to play a freaking game on a standard console like the 360 or PS3. It's amazing how EA got that special treatment from Microsoft to let them run their own servers.

EA says that they want to have a "relationship" with "their" customers.

Translation: We don't want anybody between us and our customer's wallets.

Microsoft is much more powerful now, in terms of not necessarily "needing" EA. If that contract with EA that allows them to run their own servers, separate from Xbox Live expires any time soon, then Microsoft should tell EA to kiss their ass. Unfortunately, that will never happen. Microsoft would be too scared if they didn't have Madden and Mass Effect and Tiger Woods and Need For Speed.

Anyways, you might wonder what the hell all of this has to do with Origin. Well, I've never been a fan of even using Steam, much less another freaking client like Origin, so I've been avoiding Origin like the plague. In fact, my disdain for EA runs so deep that if I was to buy any of their games, I would buy the physical copy, let it just sit in it's box and somehow get the "non" origin version. I believe things should be paid for, but if there is anyway possible to avoid the whole Origin thing, I would do it.

By the way... Let's say that I bought Mirror's Edge from Steam. I could run that via Steam right? I wouldn't also need to get Origin, would I? It's a damn shame because games like Mirror's Edge and Mass Effect and Need For Speed Hot Pursuit, and other games like that were on sale for a really nice price at Origin recently, but I just can't bring myself to buy any of those games. I just don't want to deal with another freaking client.

Actually the version of Mirror's Edge on Steam is crippled. It's missing the DLC pack.

And most games on Origin don't need to have the client running. The client is used to download the installation files and install the game. Once that's done, you can run the game normally. The first game that requires Origin to be running is Battlefield 3.

Kind of off topic, but the whole EA/XBL agreement - when does that end? It isn't for perpetuity is it?

EA is building a evil empire. And setting a new standard, horrible new standard that other companies will soon follow . All games will require online codes to play multiplayer on line. And that will be the only way to play multiplayer EA did away with system link and forget about split screen . But yes I bought it for xbox 360 my brother just built a new $1800 gaming CPU and refuses to use origin . And to add insult to injury the servers/service suck.....but I will not be playing BF3 come November 8

It's been going on a long time. Remember in the old Xbox 1 days, when Madden on the Xbox didn't feature online play? There was like one or two years when Madden on the Xbox didn't have any online play. It wasn't until they worked out that deal with Microsoft that Madden and the other games started having online play. That was a couple of years into the original Xbox. They had to have worked out that deal in 2002 or 2003.

Right, but when does the deal expire?

So wait, now granted I am a little wasted here but from what I gather you have to go through more bullshit to play Battlefield Online on 360?

All I had to do on PS3 was input the online pass and it gave me instant access, am I missing something here?

I believe OP is referring to the PC version.

That being said, you still need to create an EA account to play EA games online on the 360/PS3 if you haven't already done so.

    Really?

I know I have an EA Account online somewhere but I never remember linking them to my PSN account in any way. I've played BC2, 1943, and BF3 on my PS3 without signing up to some EA extraneous service. I remember things like the gun club for extra unlocks but never having to sign up to something to play the games online. Maybe the post I'm referring to is referencing the battle-net or battle-lor or whatever service BF3 wants me to log onto?

Don't quote me on this but I think they are auto linked since they share the same email.

Yes i think it was the razor1911 group who found a workaround for the origins client, the issue with this is though:
BF3 is a online shooter, and most people probably are still bound to some kind of account, and i'm sure EA will try to find a way to identify those that do use the crack and ban them for "cheating" or something, which probably will make their key invalid forcing them to buy it again, seen that many times.

Yes i'm referring to the PC version, but if there is a need to discuss the PS3/360 version - why not? I find it rather interesting even though i'm using neither of the two.

It's just so annoying to play an EA game and have to wait for it to connect to the EA servers and such... I hate the fact that they get special treatment like that.

As for Microsoft ending that contract, I'm sure that it runs for the life of the 360. If it continues with the next system, then EA must have an option where they can keep renewing it or something.
