Out of all the NES games, either a Super Mario Bros. or Zelda prototype would be one I would want most. I didn't even know if any existed, but I also never checked!

Unfortunately, this one is a little out of my price range. Actually, it is a lot out of my price range!

Well atleast now I know what to get you for your bday

I'm curious how they know it's the only one in existence. One might be sitting in someone else's collection right now.

Swoosh, thread moved into Classic Gaming.

And would a Zelda proto on NES have any difference from the final product? I mean, it's not like it's the Famicom Disk System prototype we're talking about!

God, let's hope so and that if someone buys it that they dump it!

If the version of the game on that circuit board differs from the FDS and NES versions, I wonder if it contains the obvious explanation for where that "wrong" picture came from as seen in the overseas manual but not in the FDS manual. That picture that showed the boomerang and sword in the cave...

The only possible difference may have been in terms of translation, but considering the Engrish used in the final version, I'd doubt it.

The other major change made in the creation of the American version that was the fact it was a cartridge port of a disk game (as the Famicom cartridge version wasn't released until the end of the console's life).

Perhaps, but there was some good info about it uncovered in this thread.

Yeah, so not only would the beta be to test the translation part, but also to test game save functionality.

    Edit--
Oh yeah, and also killing Pols Voice with an arrow instead of with a "loud noise" using the Famicom controller's microphone. The text for that slipped through QA, what would be interesting would be if in this proto they didn't take that into account yet and you can't kill them.

Are you unable to kill them with anything but the mic in the JP version?

Actually, you might be able to with the sword if you hit him enough, I can't remember for sure(and I'm unsure about the Famicom version). I just know, as we all do, that the flute and bombs certainly didn't do the trick on the US version.

I wish I had a nickel every time someone asked me about the Pol's Voices on FDS Zelda.

What if you play on the AV Famicom where you have no mic? Of course you can kill them with the sword. But I always pull out the original Famicom for this game because yelling at them to death is so much fun.

For the record, ARROWS DO NOTHING!

But that's the question. Do arrows kill him in this proto? It's one of the very few things that could possibly be different from the game we ended up with.

Yeah, I blew that damn whistle like a zillion times before just zapping 'em with arrows

That would be interesting. Not monumental, but cool nonetheless.

This is neat-o and all, but the prototype FDS version of Zelda no Densetsu has already been discovered....and dumped. Why would people care so much about a later NES prototype build? It'll be at the very least similar to the FDS version, and that's not the prototype FDS version either.

I'm confused why this would attract so much attention when it's just Zelda in an M80 cart shell?
