That's funny, there was already a thread about this posted earlier today.
There was? didnt see it. where

Yeah, around 2002-2003 I paid like $30 for my cart and I wasn't even really looking for a good price, so I probably could've gotten it for less.
It was only around 2006 or so the price started rising.
Many of us are still trying to figure out the retro price increases that have captivated the nation. It isn't just earthbound.
I just got back into video games, and video game collecting, and let me tell you, i was SHOCKED to see what my collection was worth. I mean, i was flabbergasted that GB, Nes, and SNES carts had gotten so expensive. Its gotten to the point where a large amount of loose carts are worth half of what new ps3 and 360 games are worth.
Case in point... I had this game on my shelf... I am selling off almost all of my collection... and so I was checking prices of NES games one by one on ebay under completed... when I came to "Gun-Nac" which looked like a cheap, lousy NES game worth about $2-3. WRONGO! It sold for $55 shipped.

I gotta keep my eyes pealed for a few more of those!
TeddyRuxpin, you we all have to research what games are worth. my gameboy collection is worth more than i could have ever possibly imagined. and i only just found out last month that i was sitting on something valuable.
Why are you selling almost everything- do you think a crash is coming?
The fact that Ness appeared in Super Smash Bros Melee really helped the value.

No idea if a crash is coming or not, that's not my reason. I just don't use the stuff and I'm working toward moving into a small motorhome. My collect was just collecting dust anyway. Why try to keep it all and store it somewhere? Almost everything was bought cheap at thrift stores, flea markets and yard sales.
I am reluctant about selling my Colecovision though. I may keep that stored with a few other plastic totes of belongings at a family member's house. I'm keeping my GBA games, DS, PSP, and maybe Atari Lynx. All that stuff is small and portable. I also have a Wii I paid $20 for (with the box, all hookups, 2 remotesl) that was jammed as if it had a disc in it when it didn't. I managed to fix it (bought a $3 special screwdriver on ebay) and it works fine now. I may also keep that and get a USB TV tuner for my laptop so I can use it.
Did you ever play Gun-Nac? It's actually a really good shmup and somewhat rare as well, so that's why its value is above the average NES game. Most high game values are pretty easily explained like that. It's typically a matter of a game being highly regarded, rare, or both. I don't think I've ever heard of a game that is both common and considered lousy by most gamers yet still pulls in a high value.
I'm disappointed. I thought this topic was announcing a $20 Earthbound... not merely talking about one.
I can't wait for the retro market to cash so prices can make sense again.

Gun-Nac seems to be an expensive game now, how much was it valued in the early 2000's?

I sold a loose Gun-Nac for $20 last year, I guess I should have kept it. It only spiked somewhat recently, I sold it because I thought I paid too much for it compared to my other games so I planned to find a cheaper copy.
Yeah, I was unaware that it had shot up higher. Last I knew it was around a 20-30 dollar game. I see a loose copy (with a photocopy manual) sold for $125 on eBay recently, although that's probably just a fluke since a cart for $75 didn't sell at all. I do see another that sold for $64, though. Either way, I can't complain, since I found a cart for 2 or 3 bucks just a couple years ago. Really enjoyable little game, glad I found a copy.
Wow, I thought I was the only one who loved gun-nac, I wonder how much my sealed copy is worth ;-) not that i'd sell it in a million years, but i paid a whole 5$ for it on clearance years ago.
If the game market crashes, gun nac is one of the first games i'm buying.

Bought a loose Famicom Gun-Nac last year. Forgot how much, maybe $20.
I want to guess the value shot up after Mike Matei reviewed it.
(maybe Guardian Legend will too. It was a $3 game for some time, though I see someone's already paid $15 on ebay for a loose cart.)
Another Nes game that has shot up is Wacky Races. I bought that one for 7.95 from a game store in 2004 knowing it was rare at the time, but now copies are selling for 60+. Talk about a fine investment. Fun game too!
