    Default Slim PS 2 Question

I've never owned this version of the system.

Is there any reason I should steer clear of this system?

For casual play it shouldn't matter. I haven't experienced enough slim compatibility differences to really comment.

Though the large version better fits serious users who want to hack and mod. Easier to use things like HDD.

Some of the early PS2 slim consoles had trouble playing games that shipped on dual-layer DVD-9 discs. Here's a list of the games. I'm not sure how wide-spread the issue was, though. I purchased one a few weeks after they launched and haven't had any trouble with it.

    Thanks for the info.

Just was curious if there were any real problems.
I heard there was an issue, but couldn't remember what it was, I think the games you mentioned was it, but for some reason I want to say it was only on the silver versions. (either that or it was something else entirely).

I have a model 1 in good shape and figured I want to keep it that way so shell out for the redesign.
They did a great job with the original, especially the 5 inch screen.

I just bought a brand new slim PS2, and I have both God of War and God of War II. Both work without any problems (so far).

Some early units had lasers that would short out and partially melt. There was also a power supply version that was recalled due to overheating. Both are usually associated with the SCPH-70012CB. SCPH-750xx and higher also have more compatibility issues with older games. That said I have 5 PS2 units at my house and most have been great aside from the lasers which needed cleaning on my SCPH-10000, SCPH-30001, and SCPH-77001 but not on my DTL-H30101 or SCPH-70012CB. Only the SCPH-10000 actually needs a new laser out of all of them.

Thanks, I literally laughed out loud for something like thirty seconds with that one.
