Default Kickstarter For Sega Neptune console shell!!

People have been talking about making custom molds from the original shell of the sega neptune, but the cost was too high... It would be awesome if someone did a kickstarter for it, then we could put genesis 3 guts + 32X inside!! What do you guys think ?

Genesis 3 guts? Isn't that system glitchy with some games?

It doesn't work with the Power Base Converter, Sega CD, or the 32X. So it doesn't strike me as a useful idea unless it's easily modable to work with it.

As for Genesis cartridges, mine seems to have 100% compatibility outside of Virtua Racing (Which apparently is a simple fix to get working on it). Never had any glitches, audio and video are 100%, etc. Plays every Genesis cartridge in my collection and I believe also works just fine with my Everdrive cartridge.

The Genesis 3 doesn't deserve its reputation. Has nearly perfect compatibility with actual Genesis cartridges, correct video and audio, it looks good, it's well built, has better composite out than most Genesis 1 and 2's, has a controller that puts to shame the controllers that have shipped with console clones since then, it supports standard Genesis accessories, etc.

Other than the 32X, Sega CD, and Virtua Racing, it does it all. And even though it lacks S-Video, that's hardly a unique fault where Sega Genesis consoles are concerned. Probably its biggest failing was the lack of stereo output (At least the composite cables that I bought for mine back in the 90's were mono only, so I assume they all were).

genesis 3 is fine, it just gets bashed because it doesnt work with sega cd, 32x,etc but it is possible through modding. Its very small so it would fit inside the neptune shell with the 32X. In fact the genesis 3 is very good for regular genesis, who cares about virtua racing anyways it sucked...

I know that Gargoyles doesnt work right on the Genesis 3. I'd use the Genesis 2 internals and the 32x.

I don't think the model 2 + 32X would fit inside the neptune shell...

Does anybody know how good the compatibility is with the Genesis plug-and-play units that were on the market a few years ago? Has anybody figured out how to mod those?

With some work, you can fit a model 2 + 32x inside a model 2 shell... So i don't know how they wouldn't fit inside a neptune shell.

You guys may wanna check this out it adds the sega cd as well and uses the Saturn shell. It's called the Sega Fusion and has Sega Genesis, 32X, and CD all in one! Skip towards the end for gameplay.

yeah i saw the fusion before its really neat, but the holy grail for me would be to have an exact replica of the original neptune shell... if somehow we could fit a cd tray somewhere it would be even better!! And btw if you read correctly the kickstarter would be only for making the molds to produce the shell, not a complete system with the genesis components inside, so i dont think sega could really do something against it... everybody would be on their own to put the guts inside (or maybe guys like otaku store could surely help) ... maybe we could use a cdx (AAAAHH i know i dont want to gut mine!) since its really compact... or maybe a nomad?

Funny, one of my co-hosts joked about doing this very thing in our recent podcast.

I've seen the Neptune shell at CGE, and I'd be surprised if you could fit a model 2 +32X into it, as it didn't seem as tall as the model 2. This was just eyeballing it though, so I don't have exact measurements.

I'd love something like this simply to cut down on the power supply mess.

I'd be much more interested in a clear NES system shell though

yeah i dont know why its so easy to find custom shells for ds, psp, xbox etc. and nobody does shells for nes its been out for so long!!! It would be great to buy new Nes shells to replace the yellowy beat up old nes shells. If you've never seen the custom ones made by jayrod2, they are absolutely awesome check them out!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoRFN...0&feature=plcp all his custom paint job are absolutely top notch! Although a clear Nes shell would be cool, there's just something special for me to bring back a console that never came out and build one like the neptune

Custom NES shell could be great. Even better if we had a source of vertical 72 pin connectors, it'd make the NES about an inch smaller doing away with that infamous loader mechanism.

I've often said that someone should make replacement 72-pin sets that are simply card slot connectors on both ends. The costs wouldn't go up much, no need for cutting or case mods. You'd simply not be able to push the cart down.

How are you going to sell of these, 100? 200? Not worth the price indeed.

I've never understood the interest around the Neptune. I'm a huge fan of Sega games around that era and got a 32X at launch, but there really isn't anything worth playing on that "console." It stinks.

Isn't because the game depend on some obscure bug in older consoles that was fixed on the Genesis 3?
