    Default October 2012 Finds

Had posted this in Septembers forgetting that it was actually October.

Decided to go to good will today and picked up a few things.

Myst III Exile PC Big Box Sealed 3.99
    Total War! for Mac 2.99
GBA with some DBZ game for 1.99

Also 43 DS orphans from my local Gamestop. I'll be posting a list of them with more from other places soon.

From a little indie store next to my (former) workplace...

A lot of stuff there is discounted right now but I haven't been able to get a straight answer if they're going out of business or not. I know online repair is their primary operation and their store has been broken in to a LOT over the past year but I think they're seeing a surge in business with the sale going on. Anyway...

GBA - Super Dodge Ball Advance
    Dreamcast - Sega Marine Fishing
    PS1 - One
    NES - Rad Racer
    NES - Commando
    NES - Knight Rider
NES - Sesame Street Big Bird's Hide & Speak

Ended up being less than $15 for everything. Rad Racer is complete sans 3D glasses but I still have my pair from when the game was originally released so I'm calling it complete. Always surprises me how underrated that game is these days when it was such a big deal during my early NES days. Sorry kids, I'll go to my grave saying the four pieces of music in Rad Racer / Highway Star are Nobuo Uematsu's greatest work. Sega Marnie Fishing is a gift.

Visited a Book Off when I was visiting my girlfriend's parents and picked up (no picture)...

    SNES - Total Carnage
    PS1 - Memory Card (red) x2

Total Carnage is to be a gift as well but the memory cards were for me. Think it was $15 out the door there. I would have liked to browse more but they were moving inventory around and a group of the most annoying otakus I've ever encountered seemed to be patrolling the store, getting in the way constantly but purchasing nothing.

Last is an eBay find that I had been waiting to find for what seems like forever...

Atari 2600 / VCS Space Shuttle A Journey Into Space, complete as I ever need it to be. Missing the four-switch overlay but I don't need it anyway. This was less than $16 shipped. Really the only complete 2600 game I think I'll ever want.

Speaking of which, the Endeavour flyover at Moffett Field last month was pretty amazing.

I went down to my local shop today, to pick up something that they have been holding for me.

Mega Man Legends 2 for $60.00 (Used, Complete) - It was originally $80, but I traded a few things in, and still had some other credit left too.

I found one of my music grails today!

    Scatman John / Scatman's World
Mark Snow / The Truth and the Light: Music From The X-Files
Jamesie and The Allstars / We don' skylark
They Might Be Giants / Here Come The 123s
They Might Be Giants / Apollo 18
    Pac-Man (Tengen)

Came out to $7 total. Apollo 18 is a replacement copy, the one I bought ages ago was kinda beat up.

No pictures, but I got a ton of good stuff today.

Visual C++ 6.0 Professional complete in box (had to throw out the box to save space) - $4
Visio 2000 Professional complete in box - $4
    Filemaker Pro 8.5 PC / Mac - $2
Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional -new in box- - $4
Pikmin New Play Control (Wii, Gamestop stickers but game is mint) - $5, for trade

Plus a couple of random music albums.

So I can afford a new headset since mine broke over the weekend. And probably a new computer too.

I've been collecting/hunting for 12 years or so. One my rules is not hitting thrifts on consecutive days. It's too time consuming, obsessive, and when I have done it in the past it usually dosen't pay off. Today I just didn't feel like going home after work and I hit a thrift I was at yesterday. Now, I'm rethinking my strategy!

$2.02 each! Really happy to make a good find...so far and few between nowadays. Not so happy that I'm going to be tempted to hunt everyday. I have to go out of my way to hit any stops. Wish gas wasn't so expensive!

Most of my thrift store finds are like that, same day they pull them out, then again one of my PS2 debugs sat at one of the bigger Goodwills for over a week.

was with a friend visiting a game store a town over but got there before they opened so we stopped by the salvation army and I got a Nintendo sliding drawer game case with 22 games (nothing to amazing but all in good shape), two controllers and a zapper for $20. Can't complain about nes games for under a buck a pop.

Great find. I'd love to find a whole bunch of awesome Sega CD games like that.

If I visit the same thrift too frequently, I usually end up in some kind of awkward situation where I keep running into the same staff or customers, like the one time a creepy employee started following me around trying to make smalltalk and hit on me, haha.

It's the first one I've come upon so I'm going to hang on to it.

See I visit the thrift near me enough that the folks know me and don't mind me going into the case with the games unattended. Plus, sometimes they invite me into the back to check out stuff that hasn't been set out. That's how I got my $4 copy of Chrono Trigger

So I went out for a while today and picked up a few things.

    First stop I got
2 Garmin GPS units $2 each
    1 Insignia GPS unit $2
    1 Mio GPS unit $2
2 PSP 2001 systems neither have battery cover or battery and are pretty scratched up. $2 each
1 DS light with a loose hinge $2
Copy of Sonic Adventure 2 for Dreamcast $2

None of them came with cables and were untested and no garuntee to work. I've tested the GPS units and they all work. Haven't tested the game systems yet. They all have light scratches from using and poor storage nothing too major though.

    Second stop

Xbox Conker Live and Reloaded Demo $1
Gameboy Exodus Journey to The Promised Land $1
Bag of six random GBA games for $2.99 (I haven't even really looked at them yet.)
