When I start collecting a year ago, I had NO IDEA what I was getting into. Last October I actually had not one single game or system. I didn't realize how fun and addictive this hobby is, and expensive.

How much did you spend? How many consoles and games did you buy?
I plan on doing some buying for PS2 after I get christmas/birthday money.
Me, I spent around $50. I bought a PS1/2 controller adapter for my computer, Xenosaga 1, Kingdom Hearts, Silent Hill 2 GH, Soul Calibur, 3 demo disks, and 3 different controllers used.
Last year I spent relatively the same amount on games and a memory card: Shadowman for ps1 (buy the N64 version with expansion pack), Doom 64, Quake 2 for PS1, Silent Hill 2 black label, Soul Reaver, Final Fantasy 8 & 9, and the ps1 emmory card, a ps2 one came with FF 8.

I don't even wanna know what I spent this year.
I'm with you on this. Just in arcade sticks over $700. limited editions and one offs. I do love these.
VLX Diamond Hori, EVO Mad catz, Namco 6 button, Byrdo, other not-to-be-named crappers (just to say I have them all...freaking things are worse than Pokemon....). Oh yeah, a Hori SNES stick too... pretty cool.

Game on!
I've lost track of all my purchases this year.
According to my spreadsheet, and with some guesstimation because it includes some non-game stuff, I've spent about $2600. However, I've sold approximately $5250 worth of gaming stuff. A big chunk of those sales was trading in things from my collection to Amazon when they had a couple weeks of incredibly good trade-in values (amazon credit is as good as cash for me). I don't track separately the stuff I buy to keep, though, which is probably the number that would fit best in this thread. This year it would have mostly been current generation stuff.. I bought several CEs on clearance and such, plus the Nintendo special edition stuff. The selling I do as a secondary (consequential?) hobby to my collecting.
I have been trading a lot more this year. I picked up an old Pinball (Fun Park) in trade for a gun. I have also sold some of my more valuable games on NES like Little Samson, etc.
Yet another youtube channel:

This is probably the first year where I actually made more money selling than the total I spent. I sold about $2k worth of NES rares (strangely enough, I *also* sold my copy of Little Samson) and some other assorted rarities, and flipped a Borderlands 2 Loot Chest collector's edition for $500.
As for what I spent, I'd estimate it was in the neighborhood of $1500, including both older games and new ones. At least $400 of that was in the last 2 months - I've bought about 160 PS2 games since early November. I expect next year to be pretty flat - I'm planning to bulk up my PS2 collection as much as possible, but I'm hoping to offset it with sales of more of my classic stuff.
If i was to take a wild guess.. and this is a wild guess.
I would say between goodwill buys, thrift store buys, game store buys (and i've only bought 2 things from a game store this year and that was at the same time in a local mom and pops game store in salem MA), XBOX Live purchases, and Steam purchases. I would say probably some where between 300 and 400 which is alot less then last year. Last year I spent probably around 800 bucks between lots and all that
Not any really large items, but I started gollecting Genesis games again and I'm up to 50+ titles now, 8 gameboy micros (going for a complete collection), a dozen or so GBA games, about 40 or so SNES games, 30+ N64 games, random portables and a TON of game-related things such as Universal Game Cases, parts for modding consoles, shelving materials, etc.
Plus quite a few modern games and some other stuff that I know I'm forgetting.
Hahaha... I hadn't even thought about the total I spent. I always spend a lot each year, but this year was something special. I had one massive purchase, but didn't even realize how much I spent prior to it until I looked at the totals on my spreadsheet for the year.
So, in the end, I dropped $30,100 on video games this year (about 50% more than the past few years)... and about another $6,000 on board games (I went kickstarter crazy)... HAHAHAHA!!!
I can't wait to dump everything and find a new hobby in few years. I won't even know where to begin... :P
Be Attitude For Gains...
I haven't bought a whole lot this year. Mainly because I mostly buy for my collection from thrift stores and flea markets, and eBay resellers have made sure there's nothing worth buying in the wild. I said that I buy mainly at fleas and thrifts, but I've also bought stuff at the Oklahoma Video Game Expo, which might be one of the heavier spending sprees I went on this year. But I bought less than I wanted to, since the guy selling PC Engine imports wasn't there this year. I'd have blown a lot more cash if that were the case.
Probably around $100 or so. Been spending more time at the swapmeet, so my gaming dollar stretches a lot further than it did when I was buying new games from retail.
