    Default snes craigslist lot

ok so i'm likely going to meet this guy tomorrow from craigslist....he's selling an snes in "excellent" condition with 18 games for $50.....

    here's his original post:

"Games and system both in excellent condition. Game storage box included.

    LIST of Games:

    Wrestle mania
    Toy Story
    Michael Jordan
    Mario paint
    Bulls vs Blazers
    Madden 98
    Mickey mania
    Power Rangers the Fighting edition
    SUPER Mario world
    Donkey Kong
    NBA Jam
    SUPER Mario Kart
    Star Wars
    Nigel Mansell's World Championship,
    Super Mario Allstars
    NHLPA Hockey
    Donkey Kong Country 2
    Paperboy

There are 18 in all. All cords, a mouse and and 2 regular controllers and 1 advanced controller."

Anyway, i have a few of these games already...madden 98, dkc 1 and 2, mario allstars, and nhlpa hockey......he emailed me yesterday and told me the snes was not actually working....he says there is sound but no picture....personally i'm thinking it just needs a new av cord....but i'm starting to have second thoughts on this one....i feel like if i can get the system and the 18 games.....that's not a bad deal if everything is working....i can also trade away the games i already have...but if the system is truly broken i feel like i'm a bit screwed...

    tell me what you think

As you say, a new AV lead is all it will most likely need. Alternatively, it could just be a case of him not tuning in the TV to the system correctly.

Worn output jacks can happen. If either av or rf doesn't work, the other might.
I've seen broken looking av cables too. one n64 of mine has a split apart composite. but i haven't tested that cable or the system...

don't worry about video quality itself too much until you're settled and want to invest more in snes. most snes versions have s-video inside for cleaner images. while its form of rgb is a high end option unfortunately very few american tvs accept.

It depends if it has an AV cable or just the RF switch, I've come across broken AV cables that had sound with no picture before but RF switches are usually either working fine or completely dead. Either way the games are worth more than the asking price for the whole lot, at the very least you'll be able to break even if the system is broken.

ok finally got back a couple hours ago ....the snes works perfect....the problem was they were trying to use a playstation av cord to make it work...kind of funny and sort of what i was expecting....

the games are all in good to great cosmetic condition....nothing rare here but some good fun titles....i already had 7 of the titles that i will trade away...but i'm happy....

$50 for a working system with 2 controllers and 18 games....can't get that retail for sure

He was able to get sound out of the SNES using a Playstation AV cable? I'm not sure how he managed that, but it sounds interesting.
