A few tips from a seasoned GG collector:
1. Watch that powerback like a HAWK. Test it out where you know you'll be safe and see how much life you get out of a full charge. If you only get like 20 mins to a half hour, toss it. I didn't and mine EXPLODED on me. They're VERY fickle.
2. In time, ALL original GG screens go. If you're getting into GG collecting, eventually you should try to either find a Majesco Game Gear, Replace capacitors, or LCD-Mod your system.
3. Collecting for Game Gear is reasonably cheap, but SUPER challenging to get some games, especially if you go for CiB. There's a good handful of titles that, while only worth about $15-30, you'll be lucky to see online complete once a YEAR. Needless to say, you see a cheap CiB gamegear game NOT on the majesco rerelease list, you nab it. Cart-only can still be challenging, but unless you're looking for Megaman, Battletoads, Tails Adventure, or Shining Force: Sword of Hayja, you'll certainly find it in time without paying much at all.
4. Use that AC Adapter whenever you play. The rumors about its pathetic battery life are true. That is, unless you replace the screen with an LCD mod. Then it gets about 7-8hrs out of 6 AAs.

My friend on another site finds me games from time to time and these 2 he came across at a thrift shop for 5 ea. with a modest and accepted mark up I picked these 2 titles. Both have even tested to work perfect. A good find for my friend and turned into a nice score for me.
Springer is in near mint. Minor nick in the top label.
River raid has label wear but nice shape otherwise.

Picked up a few things from the local thrift stores:
Yoshi's Story (Cart Only) - $7.99
Digimon Digital Card Battle (Complete) - $4.99
Kimba the White Lion Box Set 1 (Complete) - $3.99
Toy Story 3 (Disc Only) - $1.99
Dreamcast with two controllers $20
The Gunstringer(Kinect) $5
PS2 Promo dvd $11
Final Fantasy XI Promo dvd $4
Microsoft Developer Network disc sealed x2 $3 each
Alan Wake keychain promo $6
GBA SP charger $2
Daytona demo(DC) $29
Square Enix 360 Trailer Collection $3
Super Robot Wars Promo dvd $5
I got most of this stuff online but The Gunstringer was a Target clearance game at Goodwill and I found the SP charger today at the flea market. I also picked up the Dreamcast at the flea market so I could test the Daytona demo but it came with an rf adapter so I need an av cable. This time I'm just going to keep it since I always go buying new Dreamcast to test certain disc out and then end up selling them. Everything else was picked up in various promo lots, the highlight for me being the Alan Wake keychain light.

Donkey Kong Country (GBC) $2 - My first Gameboy Color game, currently have nothing to test it out on.
Donkey Kong Land (GB) $2 - Already have a copy. But for 2 bucks I could use a spare.
Dual Shock 2 controller (PS2) $1 - Needed a second. Couldn't beat the price. Actually got this, and the two Donkey Kong games in a bundle for $5 (down from $6)
Super Gameboy (SNES) $3 - Been looking for one of these at the right price. Finally can start to replay some of my old Gameboy games.
Phalanx (SNES) $3 - What can I say, 'old man with a banjo' marketing works.
Tiny Toon Adventures - Buster Busts Loose (SNES) $3 - Remember seeing this in Nintendo Power ages ago, thought it looked cool.
B.O.B. (SNES) $3 - Momentarily thought I'd found a copy of E.V.O. Bought it any way, though I have no idea what this game is.
Streets of Rage (Gen) $3 - This, and the 4 SNES games came from a single seller who I managed to stumble across just as he was setting up. The guy was loading his table with stacks of SNES, NES, N64, and Gen games, and almost none of them were sports titles! They were all priced at $3 each. I really should have gotten more, but I showed restraint after the seller wouldn't make a deal with a whole bunch of games. At any rate, been looking for Streets of Rage.
Spyro - Year of the Dragon (PS1) $1 - I hear Spyro games are pretty good, yes?
Gekion - Shooting King (PS1) $1 - In the same pile as Spyro, almost passed it over but I noticed it was a top down shooter by Natsume at the last second and took a chance.
Also, ended up with a pile of book today on top of the games...
Gears of War Limited Edition Guide $1 - Art book + Strategy Guide apparently.
Bionic Commando Strategy Guide $1
Devil May Cry Official Strategy Guide $.25 - Found in a pile of Game Informers.
Dino Crisis Official Strategy Guide $.25 - Might actually get some use out of this.
Assorted '70s Science Fiction Anthology Magazines $2 - Absolutely don't know why I bought these, except that they were $2 for the whole bunch. Though I am currious about the Science Fact articles in Analog. And that 1977 Star Wars review.
So yeah, went in with $40, left with $15. Not bad. I saw a Sega Genesis Model 2 + Sega CD Model 2 combo + 4 crappy games for $55. I sort of wish I could have snagged it? But I don't really need it.
I'll probably be skipping next week though, as the Game Gear I got has really eaten into my thrifting budget. And in two weeks I'm going to New York State for a family wedding and I want to take a shot at getting to this big Flea Market in the Syracuse area. So I'm going to need a few extra bucks to make the most of that.
New Comics for the Week of 10-03-12
Another trade yesterday. This one was for my old Nomad. I'm pretty much done with Genesis stuff...so I traded it to my good buddy for these:

Found a few games at Toys R Us:
Chibi Robo Park Patrol DS: $13 (New) (I noticed that there's a huge sticker on top of the flower in the top-left corner of the game and soon found out why - the game is a walmart exclusive. I'm guessing Best Buy slapped the sticker over it to cover that up before sealing it.)
Lumines Plus PS2: $6 (New) after 40% discount from buying Chibi Robo
Looking at resale values, it seems I paid about what both are worth (maybe overpaid a little for chibi robo?) I think I'll probably keep chibi sealed since it was a walmart-exclusive release and will probably be a little harder to come by sealed in the future, but I just bought lumines because I loved the PSP version, so I'll probably open it and enjoy.

Was talking about retrogames at work. The day after my colleague brought this to work.
It's the PAL version with Dutch/French Manual (I'm from Belgium); game itself is in mint condition not one tiny scratch or spickle. Box is a bit damaged.
I've only just started collecting retro stuff so I don't know a lot yet, but I did some research and this thing seems to be worth something.
Sadly the guy doesn't want to sell it (yet), but I can lend it and play it all I want . I guess I'll have to keep wining to him untill he gives it to me or sells it.
Oh, that is nice. Game & Watches are something I keep my eyes peeled for. So far I only have one (Super Mario Bros. that I've had since I was a wee lad)

The things people throw out...
Was taking my trash out this morning and found a Wii console on top of the apartment dumpster, with the A/V cable and power cord still attached. Took it back and turns out the disc drive is shot. I opened it up and managed to get the disc out (copy of Mario Galaxy, works fine in my own console), at it powers on and operates just fine, but the drive is dead. I may end up installing the Homebrew Channel on it (never dared to do that on my own Wii, is it rather simple?) or at the very least, use it as a Netflix box.
$4.49 Monster Hunter 2 PS2 JPN
Yes I've ordered XRGB Mini. As much as I was resisting the idea.
Lum fan.
Someone got shafted on that deal.
Seriously that is cool and the first NES championship cart I've seen in a long time if ever. Cool item in deed
