    Default National Retro Gaming Holiday?

Has anyone here ever thought of putting together some kind of retro gaming holiday? You know, like we promote it through social media, here on the forums, on other retro gaming forums and then set a date or a weekend and then that weekend could kind of become our "holiday" so to speak? Sort of like a cool little holiday among retro gaming friends, or something. I know some people, myself included, play our classic games on a daily basis but wouldn't it be kind of cool to have a recognized weekend or day where we all request it off from work and do nothing but play our games? It would be a monument to the hobby in my opinion and extremely fun on top of it all. We could come up with a name and a logo and then put together a committee who would be in charge of promoting the holiday and what kinds of things it entails, it could be extremely large if we promote it correctly. Well, it's just an idea and I wanted to know what you guys all thought of it.

    Let's hear it!

PS: Also, some ideas for names are as follows.....

    "Game RetroMania"
    "Classic Gaming Weekend"
    "Classic Gaming Gam-A-Mania Weekend!"

I don't know, I just fail to see the point. I get sick of these stupid little "holidays" we have these days.

I'd do a week. Like National Classic Gaming week. Sort of how they do Craft Beer weeks in cities, states, etc.

Would be cool to have places hold events and help promote the hobby.

Now, would anyone actually want to pursue and promote something like that on a national level? Perhaps I'd help with some copywriting and social media stuff, but planning that many events on that large of a scale would be crazy. You'd almost need regional/city coordinators.

Like I said, if you had someone willing to work with the logistics and everything, I'd happily promote it, blog it, do copywriting and take on that kind of creative end. Obviously, you'd need someone to be a major sponsor (big time videogame companies), minor sponsors (national retrogaming stores, regional stores on that level), etc. Someone to go solicit that kind of thing. Probably some form of tax exemption (501(c)(3) nonprofit promoting the arts would probably be it) and someone with legal experience to help that along. Graphic designer to come up with a kick ass logo and merch. Regional promoters, etc.

I'd take the lead in terms of early project level, but that's a lot of volunteers and money to find.

Anyone actually interested in moving this forward?

Good Luck on getting Obie to sign off on this. Unofficial holiday maybe, but itll be hard to spread the word.

It'd obviously be unofficial. Like I mentioned, it would be akin to craft beer weeks, or book week, or whatever.

    Glad you like the avatar.

Yeah, I would include national only because it would be nationwide, I'd imagine there would be local planning groups that would be autonomous but still be able to use the "national" banner and have the national organization promote and help out their events and planning.
