    Default GBA Sega Arcade Gallery...

I have to admit this compilation slipped past me. I wasn't even aware of it's existence until I saw it at a local KB Toys yesterday. Grabbed it for $19.99. Has anyone played it yet? It has Space Harrier, Afterburner, Super Hang-On and Out Run. Not a bad compilation at all. Some things are different such as the barrel roll in Afterburner. I am so used to hitting right and then a quick left (or vice versa) to perform the stunt, but now it uses the L and R buttons. ANd Space Harrier uses one of the trigger buttons for speeding up. Very different. Other than a few things they are respectable arcade conversions. Just playing classic Space Harrier on a new system gets me all happy I recommend the compilation, its all good!

HOLY SHIZNIT! I MUST GET THIS!!! It's like the Sega Ages disc on the Saturn, only with Super Hang-On as well, and it's on the GBA! Super-grand, seeing as I don't have a Saturn... yet.

I'm impressed that you enjoy that cart so much. I just hated it -- I thought the graphics were just terrible, very blocky and pixelated. It should have been much better than it was. But it does fill a void in the GBA library.

I thought the graphics were actually quite good. These are old games, the graphics are supposed to be that way!

What he might mean is if the games themselves are scaled to fit the screen (which can sometimes result in chunky, uneven pixels). Is that the case, or is the viewing area just simply shrunk and everything was untouched resolution wise?

I imagine the quality of the graphics would be improved on a Game Boy Player.

I gotta give this a bump, because I just played it...and I'm offically adding this as one of the MUST have titles for GBA.

These ports are actually damn good...I'm surprised by far...I do say it would probably be better on GB Player....but man this is a sweet little title!

and two words for ya...SPACE HARRIER....that's all I needed to get me motivated to play this compilation...and I'm happy with it
These cartridges are dirty as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!

The unfortunate thing about Sega Arcade Collection is that they are all ports as opposed to emulation. The results are uneven.

I think the best playing game on the comp is Super Hang On. OutRun is a bit hard to control, but the prettiest by far. Space Harrier is solid, if a bit too difficult due to the frame rate and the smallness of the screen. AfterBurner is unplayable.

Worth it though if you are into the old Sega Super Scalar arcade games. Both the Saturn and DC versions of the games are much better.

I said a couple of things about it in another thread, but basically I had two complaints.

    1. The music is incomplete in Out Run (might have other games that suffer from this as well).
    2. They give you a 40 second immunity timer in Space Harrier before they start taking away lives. What the heck?

As for graphics, I actually thought that it had a very smooth framerate. I was not dissappointed with the graphics at all. I should get this for myself (I bought it for my brother for Christmas, and I've been the one playing 90% of the time ).

On a somewhat related note, I got the Phantasy Star Collection for GBA last christmas. It's also REALLY awesome, and translates well to the GBA. The only gripe is the music, specifically PS3...something about the high-notes on that old FM chip don't emulate well on the GBA. But when I got it, it was the first time I had played PS3 in about 8 years, and the emulation was good enough to make pretty emotional about it, actually.

Now, the PS Collection has Digital Eclipse all over it, which means that those titles are emulated (this game is also published by THQ). Is DE involved with the Arcade Collection?

Oh yeah, Phantasy Star Collection, great high-quality cart! Gotta love seeing the game freeze and crash while trying to save during Phantasy Star 1!

I have very mixed feelings about PS Collection. Great idea, could have been a lot more enjoyable without the save bug.

Actually, the only emulated game on Phantasy Star Collection is the original. The other two were ported using the original source code.

Outrun controls just fine on this in my opinion.

Only reason I ever play this cart.

I bought this over the summer for $5 when Circuit City was blowing out some games. I bought it JUST for OutRun. And I was highly disapointed. The controls are just broken IMHO. It wasn't a waste of $5, but it was such a huge disapointment.

Maybe its just because I've tried racing Pole Position on Namco Museum for the GBA, makes Outrun seem to control perfectly.

I have no trouble winning anytime I play Outrun, so I guess it works for me.

Wow, this thread arose from the dead! Yeah, Gallery is great. I have always been a huge Sega fan, and especially of their arcade titles. I have purchased Outrun, Afterburner, Space Harrier, and Super Hang On for so many consoles and computers in the past. I really believe this compilation is the closest you will come to the arcade.

As for the Phantasy Star Collection, again, awesome. I do believe that the included original SMS PS1 is the only re-release of a real Sega Master System game on any console ever...but I could be wrong.
