Default Will games ever be worthless? Value wise that is.

So we all know pc games and atari games that are disk or cart only, pretty much arent worth anything.
Yes some are still up there but they are far and few between.
Do you think snes and n64 will ever plummit that low?
    Shantae
    Earthbound
    E.V.O.
    Bubble Bobble 2
    Tron Bonne

These would all almost break my heart to know they arent the icons they once wher.
I kinda like the digital age but hate the lack of manuals and quality cases.
But that scares the ol brain into thinking our collections may one day be completely unknown.
A little negative, but something that mentally is inescapable.
I will always love my collection either way.

I also wonder this. I mean, there are a lot of games that go for 75 cents or whatever (common stuff like Pac-Man), but the rare titles like the MagiCard game Video Life and Air Raid will most-likely be rare and expensive for a while. But I do see where you're coming from. Why would the adults of the future want to play so-called "boring" Atari games (which they hadn't grown up with) when there's the Oculus Rift or whatever, and we all get 300+ lbs!? The nostalgia certainly adds to the value, and also to the amount of collectors there are out there for a certain system. In about 30 years or so, Wii collecting will become the craze (like NES collecting nowadays), and maybe even Xbox 360 and PS3 games will also be desirable and more valuable.

sure extremely common titles, titles with little demand or enough copies to meet demand those may not go for much money but those that are rare or in higher demand than supply will maintain or rise in price and there will always be those of us who enjoy physical mediums to digital only while cheaper is not the same and not collectible

ok.. wow, I didn't expect. looks like average is 150 on ebay some times even more...

Funny, I have 3 PS1 games left, all the others I've gotten rid of but I kept Legends 1 & 2 and Tron Bonne.

I don't think so, the community is too big now and prices have been only going up over the years. There will be peaks and valleys here and there but I don't seeing it going away anytime soon. Also some Atari and PC titles are easy to get because of their high production run and so collectors just stay away.

I think that 2-3 generations from now, when people have no emotional attachments to 8 and 16-bit eras, these games will drop dramatically in price. Worthless? Maybe stuff like Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario World that were dirt common, but stuff like Earthbound will maintain some value on rarity alone.

Older stuff like Vectrex, VCS, Colecovision, 5200, and Intellivision will never be completely worthless, but as generations of gamers lose attachment (not having grown up with those systems), values have nowhere to go but down.

Ultimately, a lot of it boils down to game quality and popularity as compared to rarity. Even a rare game that was super boring or poorly designed will maintain some monetary value on rarity factor alone. Just watch Antiques Roadshow if you need proof.

Good games are like good movies - timeless. It's not necessary to have emotional attachments or nostalgia to appreciate older games. I know there are quite a few younger gamers locally, on these forums and on youtube who never grew up with the 2600, Intellivision or Vectrex but absolutely love the simple games from that era.

The fact that we seem to be moving into an all digital distribution system would suggest that everything up to now might become more valuable since we may be in the last generation of physical media.

Once the fad in the general public dries up much will get corrected but the truly hard to find low distro number stuff will maintain some consistency much like other mediums people have messed with.

Bacon, you chose wisely. Legends 1 & 2 both have some good value as we'll so hold onto them.
