Talking Free Copies of "Blackwell Deception" Oct. 30 - Nov. 1

Who wants a supernatural game for a spooky holiday? The Blackwell series of games are point-and-click adventure games starring a spiritual medium and her spirit guide who help wandering ghosts with their unfinished business or attachments to the mortal realm and move onto the afterlife.

I received a PR e-mail today with the details on how to get a free copy of the fourth game in the series. Simply put:

    1) Visit [ http://www.rosablackwell.com/ ].
    2) Click Buy Now to add _Blackwell_Deception_ to the shopping cart.
    3) Enter "Boo" in the discount code area and the price will change to $0.00.
    4) Checkout and enjoy!

But hurry as the offer expires Friday, Nov. 1, 2013 at 11:59 P.M. Eastern Time.

I don't understand how people can abuse a free giveaway, when there's nothing tangible being given away. Or why anyone would want to, seeing as there's no point to owning multiple copies of a digital only game, especially when people would only pay for it to directly support the creators or just download it for free from one of many online sources. And the game is already 2 years old by this point, so there's no real value left in it.

Did Wadjet Eye just limit the number of free copies available? Or am I missing something?

This is the internet, a literal hive of scum and villainy.
No shit people are going to take advantage of a free stuff generator.
Hell, I was going to grab two, one for me and one for my friend who is out of town, away from a computer.

You must have missed the rest of that sentence since you didn't include it. It's not like normal product samples where companies have to manufacture something to give away, or supplying rebates to pay back stores in cash for giving away products that stores bought from them to stock on shelves. They're literally at most just paying for bandwidth. I would be surprised if they hosted their games on their own servers for download, they could just outsource it to another hosting service instead and save money on bandwidth. How do freeware games become available to download at no cost to consumers? And not just for 3 lousy days? These aren't large games either, smaller in size than a single regular CD-ROM.

The whole point of giving away products for free is to promote your business and help it become better known, with this small game developer it could get people to become aware of them and purchase other games that they have available. They put out an offer for free downloads between October 30th and November 1st, now they're getting too much interest in their games? They couldn't just honour it for another day?

If you still want it for free, just look to file sharing sites or torrents as this company's games are all DRM free. The company gets the same amount of money from you so it works out the same. Heck it might even work out better for them as they don't have to pay for the bandwidth. If you like the game, feel free to buy the rest. Same difference.
