I just noticed recently that used complete copies go from around 50-70 on ebay. Did the demand just spike? or did they just not print alot of copies, since it was one of the earlier releases for the system?

No really clear answer other than it was a lower print run game given the publisher, but when you factor in all the sub $10 copies digitally and the free PC windows version that does play against that a bit. It's a lot of things, but be sure that part of it was speculator game collectors and resellers who saw a limited run thing and worked that angle on price. It should possibly come down, at least loose, since it got a reprint.
It looks like the ones with the holographic slip cover are the ones that are selling. Do the "reprints" at gamestop have the slip covers? I also noticed that there are more cartridge only games for sale on ebay than there are complete ones, or even ones with cases. Do that many people toss thier cases?
Well like I said the stuff at gamestop are reprints. They also do not have the lenticular sleeve and I was told by some who have seen it/picked it up, it's just the case and the card, too cheap to even print a manual for it.
That's why those with the original run retain the value, just like MP Trilogy with the smaller original run with the sleeve, case, fold out art, etc versus the crappy white case and minimal manual.
Not all the copies had the lenticular sleeve when it released either. It was just the first batch.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.
