Default The innovation of an Icon!

When does innovation begin, and where should it end when it comes to classic console characters.

It's a strange day indeed when you pick up a Mario game to find out, it just isn't Mario anymore, it's a guy with a water pack that cleans stuff up.

Innovation can make some mascots like Sonic shine like gold in Sonic Adventure, but when they stir it too long, Sonic Adventure 2 is the red headed result.

I think it has come to a time when innovation is no longer the saving grace, and when it comes to the classics without the classic element, it alienates not only the fans, but franchise.

Where will all these mascots be in 20 years? In outer space fighting backstreet boys most probably.

So what do you think about the classics getting a face lift? Is a little the ideal, or the more the merrier?

I try to just enjoy the games as they come. It's just a Video Game. I personally try not to analyze it to much, it just becomes work then. Even if a game isn't as great as its last version I still enjoy it if it is differen or trying new things (innovative?) Im sure others like yourself get into the philsophy and "what ifs" in gaming but I just like having fun.
