Default 8-Bit Predecessors to "Wave Race 64"?

Were there any 8-bit predecessors to the jet ski simulation game Wave Race 64?

Wave Race got its start on the Gameboy. So... yes.

I believe it was a top down racer however, not a 3rd person one.

Hah beat me to it, yes Wave Race was started on Gameboy. It was successful too as it hit the original criteria for players choice (1M sold) and got a re-print under that. It was top down, and obviously with jet skis.

    It's actually fairly fun.

Heh heh I've seen the box for that, but never realized how old it was. I like retro, but I prefer the looks and sounds of the N64 version better, somehow!!

The problem with it is it's just very basic in design. I don't think it has any of the tricks or helpful moves the N64 game has, just turns, sharp turns, and jumping off ramps is it. The AI isn't too forgiving either and if you don't place, you're done, so it's much like super offroad on water without the part boosts.
