Default un-intentionally started at the hard end of SNES collecting, whats my next target.

so I didn't know this until I looked up some of my games but I seem to have started at the hard end of the snes collecting scale. hard as in hard to find. sure some of it I bought new but a lot of it I have not.

i'm curious though what should be my next target, good hard to find games. none of that buy it because its rare but its a shit game stuff.

    I already have:
    Megaman 7, X, X2, X3
    Chrono Trigger
    Metal Warriors
    Wild Guns
    Ninja Gaiden Trilogy

that's about a third of my SNES collection.

each game has a story except for the megaman games, bought new or as previous rentals all in all I don't think this short list cost me very much.

what should be my next target (s)

A few of my favorites that are toward that end these days:

    Earthbound
    Ogre Battle
    Pocky & Rocky 1&2
    Super Mario RPG
    Castlevania: Dracula X

There are more, but even that small list of obvious games is a bit high on the SNES price list.

Good hard to find, expensive too sadly... with these five agree I do.
    Earthbound
    Ogre Battle
    Pocky & Rocky 1&2
    Super Mario RPG
    Castlevania: Dracula X

    Also add I would
    Aerofighters
    Final Fight 3
    Sunset Riders
...and Run Saber is a nice Strider knockoff

You're looking for expensive Snes games? I wouldn't really call them hard to find. Just people hoarding and jacking up the prices. They are out there. I see Hagane go for stupid prices. Certainly not worth the money. But it's an ok action game. Dark graphics, not all bright and cheery like most Snes games. Every button does something and it's tough as nails.

Honestly, i wouldn't deny that for most of these games nowadays you are either better off with a flash cart or just buy the japanese versions of those titles, but of course that excludes Chrono and Mario RPG due to obvious reasons, well, maybe not Mario RPG but again, nobody likes to play RPGs on moonrunes.

I pretty much only own a few SNES carts, and mostly those who can be bought from japan, like Kirby's Super Star, X2, X3 (but you are fine skipping this one, trust me) and Yoshi's Island, you will eventually get used to, for every other titles that is not chip based, flashcart seems to be the only reasonable option, i know i know, probably shouldn't be and option, but considering that the situation with the Speculator Epidemic now has reached his worse status, with hipster fiascos plagued by posers like the Analogue NT (let's kill real NES and Famicoms so you can do HDMI and RGB that doesn't even look good, yay) it's a sad reality that we have to endure.

not hunting for expensive per say just good games that are hard to come by, not because they are ultra rare either mostly because people really hang on to them. like chrono trigger for example I bought used at software ect when it was a game I could buy new still but at the time I didn't have the money. how ever that's a game, even when new, that not a lot of people would let go even if there are a decent amount of copies arround

why would you skip x3? I already have that, it was an early get for me, again bought used when I could still buy new but still....out of curiosity.

I've been trying to get a SFC of Kirby Super Deluxe but it too seems to get bid way up there for some odd reason, I would think I should be able to pick it up for about $8 before shipping but noooo they cant let me have it for that aparently

Run Saber is pretty cool. It was another one that was dirt cheap for so long... best part is 2 player simultaneous co-op. Definitely fun, but a tad brief.

Run Saber was in $10 and under purgatory up until I think 3 years ago now, that clown at cinemassacre showed it off along side a few other so called 'rare lost snes gems' and suddenly nearly overnight it went up in value very high right along with other unwanted unknowns like Hagane and a few others. It's a good key reason why some people strongly hate on Mike and the other fools who blow this information out there because business types eat it up and use it as a reason along with the hype value viral spread of the info to make games very price prohibitive towards legally owning.

Also just a fun note, yes I know Aerofighters is a flaming ripoff price wise, but if you can accident into it cheap, go for it. If not for any other reason than it has many ships that greatly vary in how they attack, but also because the game generates random enemy placement, so it's not just another lame vertical shooter to learn the pattern on and be done with. That's why I still want it back, but I know there's a 99% chance of that being never as I'm not paying like $400+ for a SNES cart when I had it for $10 in the end of the 90s with the manual and poster along with it.

Metal Warriors: It's very expensive and very highly rated. You'll break the bank with the asking price of this game.

Just get a flash cart then collect the games that the flash cart can't play. Yoshi's Island, Mario RPG, Starfox.. you already have the mega man games.

maybe I should compile a list of what I have because I have both yoshis island and star fox, no Mario rpg. I didn't think star fox or yoshis island was a hard one to find, have things changed?

any way I thought it was odd I was talking about this and today I found a small stack of games I didn't have for about $3 a pop, well they were supposed to be 2.99 but the total was only 11.98 so I either got a discount or one free but I saw her hit a quantity of 5 on the register (finds thread)

Star Fox aint hard to find, but Yoshi's Island can be kinda tough to find. They are just some of the few games that cant be played on a regular powerpak.
If I were you I would sell ghoul patrol and buy a powerpak.. or kirby super star.

A couple of others that have crept up in the last few years-

    R-Type III
    Space Megaforce
    Lufia 1&2
    Firestriker
    Demon's Crest
    King of Dragons
    Knights of the Round
    Magic Sword
    Captain Commando

One that's actually pretty uncommon that I really like when I'm in the right mood-

SOS-not Sink or Swim, just SOS. It's basically a free-roaming platformer that takes place on a ship like the Titanic that starts to sink. You can pick from various characters with different stories and starting locations or advantages, and your gial is to make it out alive, and rescue as many people as possible. It's very hard, and there's a 45 minute time limit, and it can be tough escorting other passengers, but it's very rewarding when you win. Plus, as the ship sinks, it uses mode 7 to randomly shift as it capsizes, leaving you at angles or even upside-down, and eventually filling up with water.

If I'm not in the right mood, it's annoying, but when I am, it's flawed, but awesome and atmospheric, and it had a pretty small print run from what I gather, but it hasn't really been blown up by collectors last I checked.

That's an alright pile of 5 games, though I'm not familiar with wolfchild or ghoul patrol to say much about those, but still at that price, a fool would leave them. Star Fox and Yoshi's Island are not rare in the least bit, but there are I think more copies of star fox around so it costs less, not that Yoshi is really out of control like some games are.

I hate to say it, but I have to admit I agree going with the SD2SNES or Super Everdrive route with most of the SNES library, at least for the time being. Too much scalping and filching going on makes it a real bitch to get a good price on a good game anymore, or even a decent one that has a rep. While the SD2SNES isn't cheap, it does play some chipped SNES games like Megaman X2 and X3 which would pay for it. It has firmware updates, it can be customized, and as the developer figures out more chips, more could be added like the FX chip(which supposedly is under work but has been for probably too long to look good.) With either though I think stuff like the SDD1 compression chip and due to how the SA1 functions those are a lost cause and real games would be needed. That would limit you to needing real games for Street Fighter Alpha 2, Kirby's Dream Land 3 and Super star, Super Mario RPG for the notable things.

I've noticed lately that popular Konami titles have shot up from being cheapies ($10-20) just a couple years ago. Take a peek at Contra 3, Super Castlevania, and TMNT 4 Turtles in Time. All really good titles, earlier releases, and creeping up price wise.

StarFox had to have been around for at least a couple years in stores, as I recall that's how long it was until I got my original copy as a kid.
Then again, maybe Yoshi's Island was around for awhile too. I still remember kicking myself a bit for passing up getting an SNES Mini with the game bundled for like $25 new back when they were on clearance (even though then I thought I wouldn't need a spare SNES but the game alone would've been worth it at that price).

I bought SOS from ebay a few years ago (it was like a $20 game), specifically to be sure I get the right game and not the cheap Sink or Swim (a $5 game).
But then when I went to buy the latter like a year later, it wasn't so cheap anymore (it was like a $20 game). In that case I think it was just scalpers pushing up the price of Titus games (which were cheap before because while uncommon, nobody wanted them). Incantation I recall was sort of a first test of the scalper community. I see people like "oh that's a rare valuable game" and I can only think "it might be a rare game, but it's only 'valuable' because the resellers told you it is"

That's the problem. Once the door got opened by video clowns like cinemassacre and others about the unwanted (potentially also mediocre to crap) games and people felt a need to get them to see for themselves, it just welled up. Resellers saw a golden opportunity, some took advantage on a small scale to feed their hobby (I did it for a few years back west) and others made a job of it and usually in the sleaziest ways possible with their victims. Then all you need to do is run a video, start a rumor, give it legs, and watch a trashy game suddenly command money, or a good one commanding even more no matter how many copies (Turtles 4) or not (Titus junk) were made like Incantation. It's why I got out of actively buying video games online 2 years ago from the 80s/90s consoles from Nintendo because it's out of control. I won't stop myself from a local deal which on rare occasion hits, or a generous non-greedy soul on here or another forum, but that's it. A lot of these games are in mass and easy to find in places, yet because some resellers created the story a game is highly sought and rare, people bought into it, and now it is. TMNT4 I keep bringing up used to be an easy $10-15 game, maybe $20 as late as 3 years ago, now look it's $50 and another about $20 on the manual.

To make an interesting look at it, fire up when those videos really hit their stride in wrecking the Nintendo old game market -- 2012
    Turtles jumped starting in 2012

Run Saber I brought up, that was a $5-10 game until the video year 2012 when it spiked to $40 right after it was shown off, fell back nearly 1/2 that much but rapidly since has eeked up to the $50 mark. While never cheap Hagane was a $35 game long term, sat around $100 for awhile, but again 2012 it spike up to over $300 and since then has wobbled between $250-400, and really recently over $400. Aerofighters while more of a $75-100 game long term, same rough time it popped and now it's a mid-high $400s game. Have fun with the fairly accurate aggregate totaling that the video game price chart site does with a SNES game, see what happens, NES too. Oh and Incantation went from $20 to $50 and up to $90 starting again in 2012.

Awareness of the entire series must have increased greatly. The NES game is up a good deal ($~63 from under $10 five year ago) and even the Game Boy cart is ~$16 now.

I agree about Gargoyle's Quest, I think it's general awareness on that one probably brought on by the collectorama abuse of the NES and SNES side by side. GQ2 was still a cheap game up until that peak I was speaking up, both of them shot up side by side as people realized what they were despite the name difference. The GB one went up, but being that it's Gameboy and it gets little respect from most collectors and scalping resellers it has held it down only gaining maybe $5-7 on the average of where it was as it used to be readily had for $10 or a little less.

I had both Lufia's a few years ago, let #2 go a year ago, tried as I did I never could get into them and 1 I disliked.
