    Default Direct To Console Video Game Sequels

    Here is a list of video game sequels that were ported direct to consoles/computers. . .

    GEN = Sega Genesis
    NES = Nintendo Entertainment System
    SNES = Super Nintendo Entertainment System

    Frogger II: Threeedeep! (1984, various)
    Space Harrier 2 (1989, GEN)
    Paperboy 2 (1991, GEN, NES, SNES)

    Can you think of any others?

    As to how good they were, I think the GEN version of Paperboy 2 outshines the two Nintendo ports since it also has voice samples added. All Paperboy 2 games, if you hit the female sunbather, results in a news article with the heading "HOSED BATHER FILES COMPLAINT!"

    There are literally hundreds of franchises that originated in the arcade and sequels/spinoffs exclusively on home consoles. Contras, Space Invaders, Galagas, Xevious, Pac-Man, Genpei Toumaden, Renegade, Double Dragon, Golden Axe... super broad field. Maybe if you narrowed a time frame or something, but you're talking an insane list to catalog with such loose criteria.

    Dig Dug II (NES)
    Mappyland (NES)

    Edit: I think we should keep this to direct sequels to arcade games, not further franchise sequels.

    ^Dig Dug II was an arcade game.

    Columns III(Genesis) [II was an arcade exclusive]
    Fire 'n Ice(NES) [sequel of sorts to Solomon's Key]
    Golden Axe II/III(Genesis)
    Rolling Thunder 3(Genesis)
    Shinobi II: The Silent Fury(Game Gear)
    Solomon's Club(Game Boy) [much more direct sequel to Solomon's Key]
    Splatterhouse 2/3(Genesis)
    Strider Returns: Journey from Darkness(Genesis/Game Gear)
    Q*Bert 3(SNES)

    Technically, the Adventure Island series, as well as the Monster World part of the Wonder Boy series.

    Also on a technicality, Lightening Force/Thunder Force IV. III was a Genesis exclusive, but was ported to arcades as it's own game, Thunder Force AC.

    Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist(Genesis) was a mashup of the 2 arcade games.

    There are some odd games that aren't really the latest game chapter. Dragon's Lair: Escape from Singe's Castle was released on the Amiga, MAC and PC the same year that Dragon's Lair II: Time Warp was release in arcades. The game uses some of the missing levels from the original arcade game.

    There was an 8-bit version (C-64, Spectrum, etc...) of the game, and it had the title of Dragon's Lair 2: Escape from Singe's Castle. It was released much earlier, in 1987, but is pretty much like the crappy Dragon's Lair that was released on those old computers.
