I haven't been on the site much since having kids, but my oldest(5) has been getting into games recently. So I've been playing a lot of Goof Troop for the SNES, which is his favorite of "Daddy's games". It's got nice solid gameplay. Not too hard, not too easy.

Otherwise I've been slowly working through my DS library and just about to finish the first Ace Attorney game.

Goof Troop ended up far more interesting than it probably should have. I expected another licensed platformer when I saw it was a game in the early '90s, but its puzzles and co-op really felt pretty unique! Maybe not an all-time classic, but definitely something that stands on its own with or without a license.

Even though I feel like I put practically no time into it, I finished off Hamelin's route in Ozmafia on PC. Presumably not the good ending. Maybe the events leading into the good ending add a decent chunk of time to it. Or maybe it's just a short route in general, considering it is a "secret" route and all. Either way, I'm gonna get back to pursuing Caramia's good ending.

I sat down last night wrapped up under a blanket recovering from sickness and playing Strider on PS3. I first started it about a year and a half ago, but had gotten sidetracked. I picked it back up last night, and wow, I'd forgotten how much I really like that game. I probably gave it a solid four hours during my quiet night alone, and it gets continually better as it goes on. Story-wise, it's just a re-telling of the same Strider vs Meio saga, but it controls like a champ, and that's coming from someone who doesn't care for analog control in 2D games.

The backgrounds can be a bit same-y, but variety is there, especially as you get deeper into the game. The boss fights are well designed, old school pattern-based affairs, and each is fought differently. The exploration is rewarding, with a good balance of secrets and progression. I like that not all functional upgrades are guarded by bosses, and the map function illuminating major items helps for completion, as do the menu tallies.

I'm at the tail end now for this play, and considering hunting all of the odds and ends down just to spend more time in it. It's a very good synthesis of Strider and Metroid, and I'm so glad it came out on disc in Japan (plays in english), or I probably never would have played it.

Finished my playthrough of Strider on PS3. I have to say, it's becoming one of my favorite games in the Metroid style. The amount of secrets to find makes exploring fun and worthwhile, the boss fights offer a lot of variety, and the catapult mechanic is a really enjoyable gameplay element. The only real criticisms I'd level at it are that the backgrounds can be a bit on the dark side, which obscures the wonderful details, and there's no New Game+ or continuing to explore post game for completion. Saving after you beat it retains your unlocked extras, but wipes you progress otherwise, which sucks, leaving only a completion time and percentage to recall it. Still, the game was extremely satisfying, and any fan of Metroid or Strider ought to give it a whirl.

Just finished Silent Bomber on PS1. I've been wanting to see how long it was to possibly include it in the game completion challenge, and it took about 3 hours.

It's a pretty strong action game that in many ways feels like a successor to Trap Gunner with focus on a story campaign instead of versus battles. Pretty good, though a couple of the boss fights were infuriating. Overall, I liked it a lot, and feel like it's a pretty unique action game that combines a run 'n gun with Bomberman.

just been playing Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2. one reason I like racing games is because I can mute them and put a Youtube video in the background and listen to that and usually still do well. this is one of my favorite console games of all time and Ive been playing it since it came out 17 years ago (God I cant believe its been that long)

I just got the Gravity Suit in Super Metroid on Super Nintendo, so I'm starting to explore Maridia. I'm enjoying my time with the game, but it'd be great if I could knock this out before 2020. I haven't hit 15 games beaten in one year in several years.

I'm still really swamped with work and other things (which is rough, but at least I still have work, unlike so many others right now), so I've been barely touching any games. On top of that, I've grown a little bored with Mystic Chronicles for PSP on my Vita. I completed the quests that opened up post-game, so now all that's really left to do is fight the next boss. I gave it a try but got creamed pretty bad. So it looks like it's gonna take more grinding, but having already done a few rounds of grinding before the "final" boss, I'm not really in the mood to do even more right now.

My husband downloaded the 4K, widescreen Super Mario 64 that's out there. It's effectively a PC port of the game. It's really cool to see the game running like that. We took turns getting stars. The camera was driving him nuts because he's so used to the standardized functionality and control of cameras in modern games, but since I don't really touch AAA modern games, I still have no problem with the Super Mario 64 camera.

I discovered my game of Zelda 2: Adventure of Link on my 3DS had a save on it, so I decided to polish that one off.

Oh my gawd, I forgot how cheap the enemy hits are! After dying for the last time on the lava on the way to the Golden Palace, the trek back there is super annoying with the dead-eye lizard folk that have no problem pelting you with rocks...from a distance....when they are off the screen! If the followers of Ganon employed these guys for all defenses, Link wouldn't thrown in the towel several palaces ago. I will gladly admit that after I got to the river of lava again, I used the Virtual Console save state feature liberally. Got the red magic jar on the far right of the lava pool and filled my meters-save. Get to the beginning of the first lava sequence. Save. Beat those floating ghosty eyes by being patient and letting them come to me before I progress past the first half of that stage...save. Miscalculated a couple of those floaty ghost eyes, got Simon Belmonted twice in mid air and fell to my death in a bath of lava....reload.

One thing I don't have now that I had in plenty the first time I beat this game (about thirty years ago) is time. I play this on my lunch breaks, which I have been able to thankfully take these recent days, so my window of play is variably narrow. I don't have time to start from the beginning after a death and slog through the annoying bits to get back to where I was and beyond. So I thank Nintendo for the save state feature.

Did anyone else who has played this game to the end get the feeling that the developers just wanted to get the game done after the Ocean Palace? It's like in short succession you get all your remaining spells and items with not a lot of work and they really don't DO much in terms of game play. The Flute makes the Hidden Palace appear, the entrance to where the Magic Key is appear and gets rid of the river monster. After that, you don't need it. The cross allows you to see hidden floaty ghosty eyes. The magic key opens all remaining doors....but the only place left that has doors to unlock before you get to the end is the Hidden Palace. How often does one use the spell....um...Spell? It's not like there's lots of places to fill up your magic when you use it-the abandoned town doesn't have an old woman to refill your magic. The boots allow you to walk on lava and water on the map but you don't get to go to a lot of places as hidden walls block your path.

That's just the magic side-the journey also seems to look like the developers had it. The lava road is basically a somewhat narrow path where it's easy to run into a random encounter where you get marauded by a bunch of ghosty floaty eyes with lava pits everywhere that those precious boots doesn't protect you from. The boots from "Wizards and Warriors" were more effective. Then there are the action parts, then the caves. Just to survive the lava walk needs a lot of luck to get through without hitting encounters and thus saving magic.

I got to the Golden Palace with I think 2 lives to spare. Now I remember why I like the original Zelda better-at least for many of the situations there if you get blasted, it's more your fault than the game being cheap.

just started Breath of the Wild. its decent enough. The graphics arent that impressive. the game is massive and all but it just feels like a lot of empty space. crafting, weapons that get used up. meh. I'll play through it but once I beat it I'll probably sell it. I knew when I played Twilight Princess I could see the direction the series was heading in

The other game Im playing is Marble it Up. pretty fun

I played BotW for a while until one of my step sons was interested. I didn't realise that you vould have multiple profiles on a Wii U so I blew my progress away so he could play. Then I found out later about profiles. Doh!

I didn't get that feeling of bored wandering. After playing Skyrim I kinda miss the ability to climb and such, along with the fact I care more about the Zelda mythos than Skyrim's. While Skyrim has exotic places with a feel of different cultures, it kind of feels the same. And I really don't care about my character. It doesn't have the humor (IMO) BotW does.

I just bought it digitally for the kids for Christmas. Don't care that I paid full retail. At least the disc won't break like before

I played a little bit of "My Life in Portia" which is ok. Not fond of the "must end day to save" though. I got back into Zelda: Spirit Tracks when waiting for my wife to get done with a medical procedure. I just cleared the ocean temple, which had pretty clever puzzles.

beat Mummy Demastered. Great game, hoping for a sequel. not sure what to play next. I might look through my Lynx games to see if there is anything there I am willing to play through. really hoping the Analogue Pocket comes out soon because I hate the actual Lynx itself as a game machine. It's the only console I am aware of that plays Lynx cartridges

I need to check in on this thread more often; missed the Morrowind / Oblivion / Skyrim discussion. Played all three but Oblivion is the only one I didn't finish - the mods I had installed must not have played nicely and it crashed somewhere during the main story. Loved all of them, Skyrim probably the most.

Lately I have been plugging away at Soul Axiom. It's probably the best adventure / puzzle game I've ever played. Story is pretty gripping and is doled out in pieces as you solve more puzzles. A few nights I've been joining a few buddies with Valheim.

    Tetris on Genesis (Mega Drive)

Just because I saw a standup say you couldn't play Tetris on Genesis. It does have two-player but it's not great. Bad controls and generic music although I did like the changing backgrounds and the piece stats.

Fully licensed NES or GB Tetris in a first round KO.

Tengen Tetris in a first punch KO.

Honorable mention to the Windows 3.1 version.

I got to play a couple games over the weekend.

First was the proto leak of the N64 game "Dinosaur Planet". It was pretty solid of what I played. I just wish it was at a point where it wasn't Star Fox'd, though it looks like the level of Star Foxiness is just his character model and his dialog. The game itself still referred to Fox as "Sabre".

I also got a lot of Animal Crossing:New Leaf play in. I got to partake in Bunny Day and I milked that as much as possible. ReTail was offering a premium on furniture, so for every Egg piece I got, it went to my loan repayment. One of my twins wanted weeds pulled in her town, so I went there and did that. As she ransacked my trees last time....I returned the favor and grabbed some eggs with prizes. My small added east wing room was paid off and then some.

Now to fund that room's expansion.....

just beat Spyro for PS1 (120%). last time I did that was maybe 20 years ago. such an easy game but its so easy on the eyes and satisfying collecting jewels that it's easy to forgive the kindergarten level of difficulty
