Why do you feel that way? Did some or most of the original developers depart? Or just generally based on the use of gimmicks in the last couple of iterations?

The use of gimmicks plus Miyamoto's very well-documented dislike of that game and Super Paper Mario, combined with poor decisions made by the new staff.
