Simple enough "paper mario and the thousand year door" for me.
Super Mario RPG is the only one I've played, but it is one of my favorite RPGs and favorite SNES games. All of the other Mario RPGs seem like their own thing and don't give me the same kind of vibe.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door gets a 10/10 from me, it was so good and highly polished. This is my favorite one without a doubt and i am surprised it has not been remade yet.
The N64 Paper Mario is also awesome - that is a 9 out of 10 to me. The above Paper Mario game managed to top it however...
Snes Mario Rpg is a solid game as well but different from the latter 2 games somewhat. It was one of, if not thee last game that Square made for Nintendo at that time and it shows [in a good way]. They took what they learned from Chrono Trigger and ran with it.
I have tried the non turn based Paper Mario games that came out on the Wii and up to today and i could never get into them. This was a solid turn based spinoff of the Mario series that they going on and i lost interest when it devolved into yet another platformer.
I've only played Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: Color Splash, so for me it's just Super Mario RPG (and I really don't have a desire to play the others at this point).
I know Color Splash is not the best example of the series, but it did create an awesome world. The card-based battle system sucked, but the world that the game created was top notch. It would be a better movie/cartoon than game.
