Default No Contest!: Most Disappointing End Bosses

It's the final boss of the game! Get ready! All the skills you have accquired throughout the game will be greatly tested by this last and forboding menace standing before you. The enemy is very strong and has every angle of your strategy covered. To be victorious, you'll need to be calm, quick, and daring. This is it... the last and most treacherous challenge of the game. Be vigilant!

    ...

    ...

    ...

"What the hell? Is that all? I thought this guy was going to challenge me! What a gyp. Shouldn't this guy be the boss of the second stage or something?! That was almost too easy!"

Anyone else get geared up for your first time against an end boss only to slaughter them effortlessly? I've played many a game where the end boss was no more of a challenge than a sub-boss.

Task Force Harrier Ex comes to mind. I had more of a challenge facing off with the level 4 boss than the final boss on level 12. The level 4 boss (nuclear flame throwing tank) was much smaller, slower, and less agile than the level 12 boss (supersonic stealth bomber), yet it challenged me twice as hard. Very upsetting.

What games did you play for the first time where the end boss took you no more than a couple of tries?

Super Mario Bros 3 - after struggling to reach the big bad Bowser for god knows how long, to see him just kill himself without any effort from me was a bit of a kick in the teeth :P

Super Mario Sunshine - no problem, avoid and bum pound

Conversely... hard end of game bosses?!

Mangar (Bard's Tale 1) - jesus, you had to levelled up the eyeballs to even survive reaching him, let along beating him. Especially with vampires either side draining levels from you. Easier once you figured out the strategy, but still tough as nails.

    DoDonPachi (arcade) - help mommy!

    Ikaruga - help mommy! x2

Oh yes, I'm STILL getting my ass worked over by the bosses in Ikraruga -- the 'flaming wheel of death' in Stage 3 was a while to master, now I'm trying to figure out the multi-part boss in Stage 4.

Hardest fights? Luca in Suikoden 2 -- oh GOD! Three furious rounds of combat with him and he can kick your ass SO easily.

Easy fights? I'd have to think about that one for a bit -- a lot of RPG's have easy final fights, or at least not as tough as some other ones. Actually, Luca in S2 is'nt a final boss either.

The final boss in Majora's Mask.

If you get the fierce diety mask, all you really have to do is tap B over and over.

The most disappointing was the ending to the original Suikoden. Here I was, leveling up just about every char, I go into the last castle, make my way up to the throne room, and....wha?!?! Not gonna spoil it, but I was a bit miffed that I had wasted all my time leveling up like I did.

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow had the easiest boss ever. Just equip the cross and lightning book (I think...the one where the crosses ride up in a beam of light) and make sure you have magic potions. Use item 4X, refill magic, repeat as neccessary. But the bosses were easy enough that I probably didn't even have to do what did.

That would be the final boss on the first Parodius game. Sure, he says "I am strong!" but just shoot each of his tentacles once, and he dies!

Yeah, he was easy even without the mask :P

    IRT DDCecil:

Is that so? That sure sounds like Parodius style :P

Ys Books I + II final boss was a cakewalk. I was shocked at how easy it was the best him.

Same for Bowser in Super Mario World. Cool Mode 7 upon defeat though

Kefka in Final Fantasy 3/6. The 3 bosses before him are the hard part.

    Mother Brain in Super Metroid.

The final Event in Super Smash Bros. Melee (#51) jigglypuff!

Most of the Sonic the Hedgehog games.

Contra - Red Falcon's Heart: Destroy the four pods, and he's helpless.

King of Fighters 2001 - Original Zero and Igniz: CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEEEEEAP!!!

FFX - (can't spoil): If you could slay Nemesis, you can surely kill this guy in TWO moves.

Time Soldiers - Gylend: After the actual stage itself, (and those damn eye-plants) he's a slice of pie.

The Genji and the Heike Clans - Minamoto Yoritomo: You have the three magic items, and he is so screwed.

Ghosts 'N Goblins - Lucifer: What an anticlimax to such an otherwise machine-wrecking game.

    And THE big one...

Gradius - Bacterion (?): The ultimatum of disappointing bosses!
That's it! Next stop: The Junkyard. Population: You!

The Mother Brain in Super Metroid qualifies as a dissapointing boss based on level of difficulty, but the ending in Super Metroid more than makes up for it.

Shredder in TMNT (NES), although I was kinda happy about that after the insane stage he's in.

    Final boss in Legendary Wings.

Anybody who has finished Final Fantasy 10 feels my pain about the last boss. Enough said.

I have to second the vote for the brain at the end of Gradius. It dies whether you shoot at it or not, almost as if it's been infected by your germs like in War of the Worlds. Most of the final bosses in Paradious are the same way.
Tatanga at the end of Super Mario Land was pretty weak as well... in fact, I nominate him as the WORST boss in any of the Super Mario games. What was the deal with him, anyway? No personality, no character development, no real reason for existing aside from stealing a princess even more generic than Peach Toadstool... someone must have been asleep at the wheel when they created him.

I think if I hadn't levelled up my party a little beforehand, the end fight would've been more enjoyable. Ah well, never mind.. still got the Dark Aeons (might see Penance one day!) and Monster Arena creatures to go...

    WARNING SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is no way in hell that a fight in which you have Auto-Life (you are automatically ressurected upon death) could ever possibly be fun to me. That is complete bs on Squares part to screw the gamers with an end fight like that.

Gradius 3 for super nintedo. You spend many of you levels flying around at lightning speed, dodging countless enemies, and fighting many morphing and difficult bosses.
Yet, the last level of the game somewhat resembles flying into a section of a woman's private anatomy. You must blast away several STDs inside, break through a hymen, and then face a giant deformed baby fetus at the finish line. Think this would be hard? hell no.
He only fires three easily-avoidable shots at you, and takes very few hits to kill. I know that this boss was intended to be easy, in gradius fashion, but that doesnt make it any less silly or disappointing.

The Nightmare of Kirby's Adventure. I started playing KA when I was around 12 anyway, but I remember beating the crap out of him the first or second time I fought him. DeDeDe was more of a challenge, really...

Dracula in Castlevania II. You can beat him in about 5 seconds before he even starts to move. The FIRST time I ever got to him as a 13-year-old I beat him in LITERALLY 5 seconds. Find me an end boss easier than that.
