Default Best action/platform games on the NES

Ok, first off all, you cannont consider Super Mario Bros. 3, or the original Super Mario Bros.

What are the best action/platfrom games on the NES?

Back when I had a NES, I was really only a casual gamer, and I was mostly into playing sports games with my High School homies. We would play Tecmo Bowl, Double Dribble, Bases Loaded and Track and Field II all the time. I played Super Mario Bros. a little bit because it came with the system, and I also played Contra and Ninga Gaiden, but that was about it. I really didn't become a "gamer", until I got a TurboGrafx-16, and a Sega Genesis.

Or is this really a platform game? I didn't know that.

I'm going to reccomend Journey to Silius since noone else mentioned it. It's not Mega Man or Contra level greatness, but it is a solid game with great music.

You'd probably have to get an ebay PAL version or download the rom, but Ufouria by Sunsoft is awesome. It is like a cross between Blaster Master, Metroid, Super Mario (series), and has awesome music and gameplay.

In the way that Metroid, nor Blaster Master aren't really platform games, this isn't just a sidescroller either, but it really plays like a platformer.

I second Journey to Silius! What a fun game by Milton Bradley, with exceptional graphics. I always liked the color pallette of this game, as with most MB NES games, one thing MB got right were the graphics. I also liked one called(someone help me) Time Soldier, or Time Warrior or something, another good graphics, fun little sidecsroller action title.

    Others I like:
    -Castlevania I & III
    -Astyanax
-Code Name: Viper(clone of Rolling Thunder)
-Marble Madness(too much of a stretch?)
    -Heavy Barrel
    -Jackal
    -Rush n Attack
-Karnov...This is a great game, but its one of the hardest games on planet Earth...aaarrrrrrrrhhhh

oh...and GI.Joe, what an awesome game, you get to be Duke, Snake Eyes, Blizzard, Rock n Roll....oh baby was this game a godsend back in the 80's. Don't think I ever completed it though, pretty tough one.

Hmmm... Rare's Time Lord, perhaps? It was distributed over here by Milton Bradley, if that helps.

Time Lord...thats the one, thanks! I knew it had the MB tag on it, didn't know it was developed by RARE.

Kirby's Adventure must be mentioned. And how about Rockin' Kats and Clash at Demonhead?

I really liked Battle of Olympus as well... I haven't played it for a long time but it was a great game.
