It's not a metal barrel it's a blown up picture of the top. There is another picture of it embedded in the lower left corner. I thought the same thing at first. I wouldnt pay 15000 for a metal Nintendo barrel either.

It's actually the same thing. Three shots spliced together via Photoshop.

It looks like one of those Rubik's Cube puzzle spinoffs (like Missing Link, Pyramid, etc.) that were so popular in the early '80s. I'd say $1, never mind $2. :P
