    Default Wondermega?

I was flipping through an old EGM and they had a massive article on the "upcoming" JVC Wondermega. How rare is this odd little console today? What's one worth? Is the sound that much better like the article stated? What else do I need to know?

Oh yes, it's rare enough that you'll have to shell out big bucks for it. I know there was a WonderMega and a WonderMega 2, or a Wondermega Model RG-M1 (don't know the price, sure it's high) and the apparently more common Wondermega Model RG-M2, going for $299 at my online game store of choice.

I would expect the sound to be better in some way as the system was marketed as having advanced features. It had the Mega CD attached. I myself would like to know how the Wondermega compares with the normal Genesis, and how the Wondermega and Genesis compare with the Teradrive.

Also...I know it's called the JVC Wondermega, but the box for the M2 says "Victor" on it. Odd...

Is it the same thing as the X'Eye? I've seen those occasionally, although not recently.

From what I know there are these models:

    Victor RG-M1 - First release
Victor RG-M1a - Slightly different BIOS I think
Sega RG-M1 - Rarer than all the rest as it's Sega branded and not JVC
JVC X'Eye - US release with several of the features missing
JVC RG-M2 - Japanese only release, similar to the US X'Eye and came with two remote pads.

I only have the first one myself and have seen the RG-M2 on eBay a few times. The Sega one pops up now and again and usually goes for about £150-200 depending on condition.

It's the Japanese equivalent of the X'Eye, Matt.

Seek out the Aiwa Mega CD or the Terradrive if you want a REALLY cool Genesis/Mega Drive alternative. That's good stuff.
