    Default Amiga CD32 Information

After seeing one of these at the OKGE, I am thinking about buying one. The little info I've been able to find say that these were released in Europe. I'm in the US. My questions are:

1, Are the units themselves PAL/NTSC specific?

2, Are the games themselves PAL/NTSC specific?

3, What's the going rate for these units? There's one on eBay with a starting bid of $175. I might just buy an Amiga for that kind of money.

Most of what you're asking can be answered here: http://www.digitpress.com/lists/cd32.pdf (I've written a system overview that can be found at the very end of the list)

They were released in the US, but are not as common as in Europe (or Australia and New Zealand). In fact, most of the NTSC consoles you will find are from Canada.

    1. Yes.
    2. Yes, but you can play either games on either system. It's best if you have an RGB monitor with vertical adjustment, otherwise you won't be able to see the bottom few lines.
    3. $175 is way too much. I've listed the DP value at $80, though the going eBay rate seems to be closer to $100. There's a guy named "biggwolf" who sometimes lists brand new systems with about 15 brand new games for $200 with free shipping. That's a fair price (though not a bargain).

It would only be worth $175 if it had a board that turned it into a full fledged Amiga. The CD32 is basically a striped down Amiga, third party manufacturers released baords that attach via expansion port on the bottom to add the features back on.

The units themselves are PAL/NTSC specific. *However*, if you have an Amiga mouse hooked up to it, you can hold both buttons down at boot up time to boot into PAL/NTSC mode.

The games are also PAL/NTSC specific, but most PAL games on a NTSC system cut the bottom of the screen off. But again, if your TV is capable of a using a PAL input signal, using the PAL mode as mentioned above will work.

http://www.64andmore.com/ has them for $129 boxed. I've seen NTSC CD32s go from $80-$200 depending on what's with them, etc.
