I just started collecting gameboy games and don't really have a clue on what is rare and hard to find and what is some of the more expensive titles?

its not complete but its a damn good start
Is the Game Boy unpopular with collectors for some reason? There rarely seems to be much discussion of it.
its unpopular with me, because i can never find the games for less than 10$ a piece.Originally Posted by Jorpho

I've got all three original Gameboy Castlevanias (cib) up on eBay right now, but I've only had one bid so far. As far as I know, they aren't in demand right now.
If nobody takes 'em I'd sure buy them from you.
Anyhow...
I only have a couple GameBoy games and only one in collection-quality shape, an unopened Metroid 2 (bought last year, rather not say how much I paid for it). I'd certainly like to get some of the other good games for that system, especially Link's Adventure. Great art on that one especially; probably my favorite GameBoy game so far.
If the guy that bid doesn't come through, I'll let you know.
as for money wise... super scrabble, boggle, othello, tetris DX, shanghai.
mostly obscure games
also I don't collect because what am I going to do with over 1000 gameboy games?
The Final Fantasy games tend to go for a bit, but then again, all Square games do.
There isn't a whole lot of collecting going on, so price-wise there aren't too many games that go for $20+.
As far as B&W games, Mr Do! is probably the most expensive and generally runs in the $30-50 range cart only (though it recently sold for $101 on eBay ).
Others in the $20+ range are Mega Man IV & V (both around $20-25) and Final Fantasy Legend 2 & 3 (though due to re-issues of both prices hover around $20)
On the flip side, very few games sell cheap due to backwards compatibility. Most games can fetch $5-10 with little difficulty.
GBColor games are a little odd. Few titles seem to be "in demand" and I can't think of any one title that routinely sells in the $20+ range.

I've noticed a price drog in the Mega Man games for the GB. I paid $40 for MM4, and $45 for MM5. I remember maybe 6 years ago, Funcoland asking $60 for MM5...
Hoyle Card Games and Hoyle Casino goes for $30-50 all the time.
I'm "trying" to collect Gameboygames(GB,GBC+GBA) as well BUT it's very hard/impossible to find them in good shape(means:+mint BOX)...I don't know why. It's like N64 and SNES. Damn,I can find more boxed SNES games than N64 games...sick.
why do some people and shops(grrrrr!) throw away boxes of games?
the second negative point in collecting GB-games are the prices!
Those are way too high most times!
A GB/GBC game (just cart) shouldn't be over 5.-
Although it should be noted that the original Square releases came with a map that had item, weapon and armor info on the back. Non of the games gives you any hints on the strenght of the weapons, armor, etc in the game, you have to check the map. The Sunsoft rereleases does not include this map which makes shoping more frustrating.Originally Posted by mikeetler
There is no room in a lot of corporate video game stores, I remember when Funcoland got bought out by Gamestop, we were told to pitch every NES, Genesis, Gameboy, SNES, and gamegear boxes. N64 soon followed suit.Originally Posted by Zubiac666

Let me guess... close to or over $100?Originally Posted by Ed Oscuro
Complete ones seem to go for $50+ on eBay easily. Thank god I found a complete copy here for only £15...

is the europaen version as rare as the us?
or is it even rarer?
I could buy a loose one for 7 euros
Loose ones are quite common and don't go for much. Complete ones are rather hard to find (especially as a lot of US players throw away the packaging ) and with it being Metroid, the price goes up and up. Call it one of those eBay anomalies
Y'know, that never occurred to me before. I imagine a map like that would make FF2 much easier. At least with FF1 you can always count on the official Game Boy player's guide... My rereleased Final Fantasy Adventure came with a map, though.Originally Posted by KJN
It just occurred to me that the Workboy must be ridiculously rare. It was an officially licenesed "game" (actually an organizer of some sort); the big thing is that it actually came with a little keyboard!
