Ha! Well that is nothing .... I am going to present a class action suit against Electronic Arts on behalf of the population of Iraq and Afghanistan, on the grounds that the invasions were undoubtedly inspired by the game Desert Strike. I think I've got a good case.

I've got a tummy-ache 'cause I ate some wild mushrooms that ended up to be a little poisonous. I'm-a-gonna sue Nintendo!

We all joke at the stupidity of this, but the truth is that Rockstar's Lawyers don't work for nothing. I've always wondered how much the "blame someone else and go for a cash grab" mentality costs Rockstar to fight these cases. Altho, perhaps it works out in the end because of the publicity they get each time they're sued.

I'll admit that sometimes after playing GTA, I feel like going out and running a few people over, but parents have to place responsibility on their own children. At the age these 2 kids were, they were old enough to know that shooting at people in their cars is wrong.

God, we live in a sue happy country.

The boys told investigators that they had got the rifles from a locked room in their home and then started shooting at vehicles on Interstate 40 just like in Grand Theft Auto III--which it's worth noting is an M-rated game that neither of them should have been playing.
Yeah right. Like ANY rental stores or retail stores enforce that. Almost NO ONE bothers to enforce the ratings system. Well...except Wal-mart cause their registers are keyed to check ID on M rated games.

Which raises a question -- the suit named Wal-Mart as well, which makes me suspect that is where the game was bought at. How did two minors get it from there?

Someone probably got it for them or something. In my area there are a ton of stores that enforce those rules, actually, most of them do. I tried 3 different stores before I was able to buy GTA: VC for ps2. I finally got it at CompUSA.

I'm 17 since september though... yay for violence.

Oh yea, and if you sue a game company because someone did something stupid, fuck you.

Just goes to prove my old theory: "Accountability has given way to the ability to hire a greasy trial lawyer." Good punishment? Have someone dress up like the GTA 3 guy and drive past the two boys, lightin' 'em up with an Uzi. It's scum like these boys, their parents and the lawyer involved in the case that makes me wish I weren't human at times.

These kids are old enough to know better...well unless they're nuts to began with. I think they are using the game as an excuse to get out of it.

I don't think any company deserves this. Mainly because it just causes more flack towards an already scrutinized industry.

Since you don't like the games they make, they deserve to be sued because kids are idiots and parents are too.

    Stupid.

Can somebody here explain to me why they would sue them for 246 million dollars? I wonder how they get to an amount like that.

It's called shadenfreuden, dude. If the same thing happened to Acclaim I doubt any of the rest of you would shed any tears over it.
Don't get me wrong... I don't support these frivolous lawsuits, and feel that people should be held responsible for their own actions. However, if this particular court battle bankrupts Rockstar, I won't miss them much. They're the epitome of the overhyped, overrated game developer... can you think of one game they'd made before Grand Theft Auto III that was worth a damn? My point exactly. GTAIII is the only game that's kept Rockstar alive for the past two years... what delicious irony it would be if the same game was responsible for their demise.

Excuse me, but GTA3 and VC are not just gorefests. They happen to be extremely well designed, addictive games which are among the best of any games of all time. Period.

Just because you don't care for them doesn't cheapen Rockstar's contribution to our hobby, and I'm quite confident they will continue to produce excellent products.

Gosh, I really liked Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft Auto 2. Sure, they're not anywhere as deep or engaging as Grand Theft Auto III or Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, but I did have some good fun with those two titles.

Anyways, why do games all of a sudden become the scapegoats for acts of violence? Remember the arcade goodness that Operation Thunderbolt gave us? There were two replicated automatic weapons mounted on the cabinet. People played the hell out of that game, yet nobody felt compelled to grab an uzi and gun down a courtyard full of people.

How I long to be back when times were better.
