I'm thinking the Nintendo World Championship gold cart which sold for like $6000.
the european version of "kizuna encounter" goes for euro 5000.- at least.
this was price a year ago....could be higher now
but the most expensive in the world would be this:

Gamespy's Nr.1 HOLY GAMING GRAIL: The "1990 Nintendo World Championship Cartridge" -gold version....only 26 were produced worldwide
minimum price would be around 6500$

With such an extremely low production run and a unique tie-in to Nintendo history, the NWC carts have become perhaps the most sought-after holy grails in all of video game collecting. A gold NWC cartridge recently sold for $6,500! Will their value increase in the future? It seems a safe bet.
....indeed I wouldGold NWC 1990 cart: NES collectors would sell their own mothers to get one of these
Of course you do realize that the nwc actually looks nothing like that (save for the gold). That pic is a scan from the issue of nintendo power that held the contest. It is just a mock-up.

BUt out of PS2, GC, and X-box it has to be Steel Battlion.

Hmm...I think it's tougher than just assuming it's going to be NWC. I mean is $6000 the going rate for a gold NWC, or was that just a fluke-one-time sort of thing (as I kind of get the impression it was.)
What is the "going rate" for a gold NWC? Isn't it in the $2000 range?
Plus are we discussion protos in this discussion?
I'd be tempted to go with Kizuna Encounter unless the legendary $6000 NWC wasn't a fluke.
Atari 2600 Video Life had a smaller print run, didn't it? But I suppose Video Life isn't quite as recognizable as the NWC cart.
Outside of the Neo Geo games, was there ever any game in major retail stores that cost more than that $99 Phantasy Star?

Steel Battalion has a $200 price tag in stores? Why?
I have to go with the PAL Kizuna Encounter, actually. Unless a number of carts show up, the limit of known copies is something like 3, and the last one sold for what, $10,000 USD? Take that NWC!Originally Posted by Zubiac666

It comes with a highly customized 40+ button controller.
Its well worth it too.
The most expensive domestic PSX game I have seen is Dragon Ball GT Final Bout. I sold a scratched disc only version of it for $200 cash a few years back.
I think that was just a fluke. I doubt we will ever see a gold NWC cart sell for that high again. Before that auction, the going rate on them were $1,500-$2,000. Even after that $6k auction, I remember seeing one NWC cart listed that didn't even get the opening bid of $2k.Originally Posted by Captain Wrong
I think the reason that it sold for so much was a mixture of someone who had too much money to blow, the BIN option on the auction, and a long drought of not seeing any NWC carts on ebay for a while.
BTW, anyone know how much one of those Mr. Boston Vectrex carts sold for that last time one was up on ebay? $2,500?
I'd say NWC is about a $1500-$2500 depending on sticker condition and how many people are looking for it.
id say the gold nwc cart has a realistic value of 2,500 - 5,000.
its a pretty cool item to have, and has a lot of hype surrounding it- so that is why i think it has a price premium.
Kizuna Encounter would be anotehr example of hype ramping up the cost of an item.

I think a lot of people are getting the standard NWC cart confused with the GOLD NWC Cart.
Aren't there only 7 Gold NWC carts out there? Versus what, 50 (or more) grey ones?
I would say the gold NWC cart is worth $3,000-$5,000 easy. Wether we like to admit it or not, Nintendo MIGHT br more collected than the atari 2600, and I don't think any atari 2600 cart had a print run anywhere close to 7

Nintendo confirmed 26 gold NWC's produced. How many have survived is another matter, so that COULD be 7. No one knows.

According to this archived newsgroup thread it went for $1225 on Ebay in 1998. Definitely one rare game. At least the rom was released so we can all play it.Originally Posted by norkusa

The last NWC gold that went on ebay (at least that I remember) went for about $3600 by the ebay user: firsticey. I don't see the game going lower than that.

Check the import forums.
There's a link to a Yahoo JP auction w/ an Turbo Duo game that sold for about $3500... and that's the 3rd one I've seen go for that much over the last few years.
