Default I need a small, portable device to play SNES and Genny roms

Is there such a thing? And a laptop doesn't qualify, because it isn't small enough. Maybe the Zodiac or Sony's new unit will be able to run SNES and Genny emulators.

Does anybody know of a small portable device that plays SNES roms and Genny roms all in one unit?

Sony's PSP will be using a proprietary disc format, so it won't be able to run anything like that.

The GP32 is widely known for being able to play all kinds of emulators. You can import one from Lik-Sang, or search on eBay. Also, I think the Zodiac will be able to do that as well.

But the Zodiac will go for $300-400. The GP32 is much cheaper. And there's a model with a built in front light.
I only need 2 more NES games (US)!

Could always just get a Nomad, but then you may actually have to pay for your games.....

The Noamd is hardly portable by today's standards. At least to me, portable means comfotably in my pocket, and playing for more than an hour on one set of batteries.

To be fair the gp32 gen and snes emulators are not the best at the moment but they are still be worked on. This site has more info on the gp32.

I was just going to mention that. The GP32 SNES/Genesis emulators are still in theri infancy -- you're talking 3-4 frameskip and no sound to get most games playable. NES, C64, Atari ST, SMS, GG, GBC, and even Atari 2600 run pretty well (some perfect) on the little thing. SNES/Genesis might improve in the near future, but if that's your primary focus I wouldn't recommend one just yet.

How 'bout MAME performance on GP32? How does it compare to a PC?

    THANKS!

The sad thing about SNES9XGP is that the guy never added that gamma option. Games with lower framerates were otherwise very good, some even with sound.

MAME? It hasn't been released yet...

That is certainly an inventive use of a GP-32. I think you'd have a hard time stuffing that thing... o_O yeah.

Back on topic. I suppose the GP-32 might be able to emulate old '80s arcade games in MAME, but there is a good deal of overhead in MAME, but maybe some was cut out. Is anybody running this?
