which of the "sometime to be released in the US" shmups are you looking forward to more?
R-Type. It's "a man's game". Although, I hear that this one has been toned down a bit. Maybe a "young" man's game?

I never even played an R-Type game to be honest. I'll just have to go with Gradius since I'm familiar with the series.

I want them both. BADLY. However, Gradius has always been my shmup of choice, so I have to say I'm more interested in Gradius V at this point.
I haven't played any Gradius games other the original and Lifeforce. But the R-Type series? God, it's been driving me random acts of violence from the first entry until the insane R-Type Delta. I don't even know why I continue to come back to the abuse as the original R-Type I've beaten....once. The rest sit in my collection mocking me in a shrill alien laugh. Which do I look most forward to? Probablly Gardius V simpley because it looks gorgeous and I don't think it'll cause me mental trauma. But I know that I'll get R-Type Final as well.

Nice topic!
It seems to me that the newest Gradius is more eagerly anticipated than the R-Type...
...quite a turnaround from the first entries in the series (graphics and R-Type's greater technical sophistication certainly had a hand in it, but the easier continue setup of R-Type also drew some fans)! I like R-Type quite a bit, and it's obvious that Gradius games owe part of their favor to having been around for quite a darn long time.
I can't forget R-Type Leo. Great shooter. Yet I can't comfortably vote on this topic.
Gradius V... I've always been a greater supporter of Gradius. Not to say that I dislike R-Type. R-Type is teh rool. It's just that I enjoy Gradius a bit more for the gamplay, music, and challenge, which R-Type goes overboard on. But R-Type wouldn't be famous if it were easy, would it? Sorry, that's off the point. Anyway, I chose Gradius V. Besides, I don't have any clue what R-Type Final looks like. Now, about Gradius V...
Aaaaawwwwwww, yeah.
And apologies for the size of the pic, but I can't find a smaller one.

It's just the right size for my browser. Haven't seen a pic of it in a while, but that looks impressive just like the last. Great graphics but it still has the overall look of the original arcade games.
I've never been a Gradius fan. The series has always struck me as ponderous, bland, and marred by a poorly designed power-up system. Gradius V, however, has Treasure behind it, so I hope that they'll be able to give the formula a few new ideas while shunning some of the old ones. Let's dispense with the concept of having to speed-up your ship twice in order to get decent mobility.
R-Type, on the other hand, has been a favorite of mine since the arcade original. Its level design is superb, the visuals are still impressive today, and it frustrates me in the way that every great shooter should. R-Type Final really appeals to me, since it seems to be a tribute to the series. That, and I want the chance to control over three dozens different ships.
As I have so many times before, I'll go with R-Type.
I'll go with R-Type-Gradius's powerup system was kinda lame.

Can't really decide! gradius was my first shump really and Gradius 3 still brings back memories, as does Super R-Type and playing R-Types on the PSX.

I juist wanted to say that the above picture, with the Vic Viper blasting the old Heart & Soul of Zelos from Life Force, is probably the coolest game shot I've seen this month.
Gradius, all the way baby.
