Holy crap!!! I'm not sure what is more astounding, the BIN and 1st bid, or how freaking pristine all of that looks! I am envious... (please whoever is in charge of the universe, would it really be so bad if I could win the lotto so I could spend my money on things like this without a care?? Well??)

I wonder how much all that stuff is really worth. I must say i haven't seen an Auction of one old system as prestine as all that. It's usually a nice game or two, 50 crappy boxes and 20 loose carts with 3 systems 14 controllers and a genesis thrown in for good measure.

And how would the new owner (if any) deal with these? Lock it up out of sight? Or be evil and rip open all those shrinkwrap?

If it wasn't for the insane bid,ied for that auction just for those huge collection of games.

Wow! It's not often my mouth waters over something Intellivision, but damn! I want! I want! I want! Where the hell were those boxes stored for all these years? They look as if they just came from the factory!

I hope the buyer keeps them sealed. If I could afford to do this I would just pick up some loose carts later.

Why keep a game sealed ?
    To sell it later ?

If I buy a game I want to play it ! I only keep sealed the extra ones I have for trade.

There's been a ton of discussion about this auction; from a software perspective, it really represents and almost complete Intellivision collection (minus some of the common stuff that would be easy to obtain).

Purchased separately on eBay, the sum total is probably pretty close to his starting bid... but not worth his BIN price. It'll be interesting to see if someone ponies up for this set. Intellivision tranditionally doesn't attract the big money colletors like Atari or Coleco might.

Why keep a game sealed ?
Come on who would buy this and then open them up?

First of all its Intellivision, but even if you "wanted" to play them you could buy loose or opened copies and save yourself alot of cash.

A person who bought this auction would want to keep them the way they are.

And we come back to my question : WHY ?

Those of you who keep their games sealed (with or without loose extra copies), why are you making such a thing ?
I don't want to tell you you're wrong, I just want to know !

I don't buy sealed games to look at, but if I had the money, I would. Are you telling me that doesn't look PRETTY? Buy the games you want to play loose, but do you REALLY NEED to play the demonstration cart? Would you honestly open it?

I would open them all..i agree with sir_lavey. Thats just me though, im not so much a collector as i ama gamer, i could care less of value of sealed games, im only interested with how fun they are...if they are sucky games i prollly wouldnt open them up..then agian i would prolly just resell them right away as well.
Thats just me though, i do understand why people wouldnt open them..because they are collectors.

    Default Intellivision demonstration cartridge

I opened a sealed Intellivision Demonstration Cartridge. I wanted to see what it does. It's pretty neat I think it plays the "2001: A Space Odyssey" theme or something.

I like to have sealed items in my collection. Trying to justify why doesn't seem important. I can pick up loose carts and play them or get the roms. It is just what I like to collect. If I was going to open the game I wouldn't pay for a new. I would just get an opened and complete copy.

When you pay the kind of money that that auction is going for it really becomes more of an investment then something your buying just to play. I look at it like comic book collectors. Your just not going to open up and read the first issue of Superman or Batman. Your gonna keep it in plastic and read a reprint. Its the same story.

I wouldn't open the games, but that's me. I'd hold off and buy a shitty labeled version for as cheap as i could find it and only play that one while the good ones were on display.

    At $4900, that's no investment.

Whatever that guy paid for it..that was an investment. Whoever buys it in this auction, at that price or higher is paying through the nose for the privilege. One likely won't live long enough to see that appreciate any higher than the asking price IMO.

Stuff like this is why I hunt. If one is going to pay those prices, why hunt at all?

All that said, that is the finest IntelliVision set I have ever seen, and probably the best set I ever will see. I wish I was disgustingly rich enough to be able to waste that kind of coin to make a collection that perfect mine. Wow.

A tear has been brought to my eye! And for the record, if I had the money to afford this auction, I'd leave the games sealed. But since I do not have much money, I don't even seek out sealed games. I'd be too tempted to open it up, so why spend the money on a sealed game in the first place when I would just open it? I'll settle for loose copies for now.
