Default SNES US Dust Covers Info needed

i was organizing my US Super Nintendo games yesterday and realized some don't have the dust cover and some have. Where these covers used in all snes games or not? I'm mainly asking because my complete Super Mario RPG doesn't have one, and considering that it is in good shape, i really can't imagine the previous owner dumped the cover...

At some point Nintendo did stop including them in US game packages. I can't really say exactly when because to be honest, sometimes people keep the dust sleeves for themselves when they get rid of a complete game. At least I do.

It was formally announced by Nintendo in some form or another though, same as the inclusion of the clamshell cases for the gameboy carts (which they also no longer did after a point) to save on costs.

Frankly it was ridiculous, charging 70+ for a cartridge new and not including a dollar piece of plastic, fuckers.

I agree. the dust covers are essential to all games and it pissed me off tha they didnt do anything like that with the N64 games. I'm lucky enought to have enough for my games though.

I even ordered the special sized dust covers for GBA games.

Did the Super Famicom ever have dust covers?

I know that Mega Man X2 and X3 didn't have them. I'm 65% certain that when they changed over the inside packaging they stopped using them as well.

Right around the time Nintendo stopped distributing SNES dust covers, I called up their service department to see if I could order a few. The rep told me they stopped making them because they were not bio-degradable! But cost-cutting sounds like a more reasonable explanation to me. That was... 1994 maybe? Can't remember for sure.

BTW, they sent me 5-6 dust covers and an original NES Metroid manual for $2. I was happy.

The line now is that after the NES, the systems were designed so that the games did not need dust sleeves since they would work as long as you were reasonably considerate of your games. And they were right, who has problems getting their SNES to work nowadays? But I'm sure cost cutting had a hand in that decision.

    A whole dollar you say?

Yeah, it seemed pretty ridiculous. That said most of the SNES games I've gotten recently came with dust covers, but the games were loose (maybe Yoshi's Island had one).

What I remember is that the dust covers came with the games that had the cartridge straight and flat to the bottom (with the horizontal 'crease' in the front). When they redesigned the cartridge (to having that big grooved inward part in the front, they stopped including the dust cover.

Hmm, I never noticed that! Still, only two of the games I got in my small lot of SNES stuff were old style, and there are dust jackets for practically all of them. Maybe purchased separately, I guess.

They stopped including dust covers in snes games to reduce the amount of packaging in games. I believe they started doing it in 1994 sometime. Back in the day, you could get the covers from Nintendo for free, you just had to pay for shipping. Unfortunately, their stock has been depleted for some time.
<Evan_G> i keep my games in an inaccessable crate where i can't play them

I don't know if any of you have a Gamexchange location nearby, but the two GX stores in Wichita always have a box of dust covers for sale at $.10 each. Obviously I stocked up. Also, they have a box of FREE NES dust jackets. I don't know if this is a Wichita thing, or a larger scale deal. Check 'em out if you have one nearby.

A freind of mines dad bitched about them not including dust covers back with their SNES games in the day. They sent him a box full of dust covers. Nintendo has the greatest customer service!

Hydrox: I don't think there are 100 of them available at a given time. Usually 10-20 in the box. I suppose I could stock up some more over time, but it would take awhile.

I'm not a fan of the SNES dust covers, its great the tight seal they form around the base but you just cant stack the carts with the covers (or if you have them vertically, they take up too much space).

on the other hand, I'm the guy who goes into gamestop 2 a week and picks up all the 29cent copies of duck hunt I can and pull the dust covers from other games. I'm sure I am not the only person who does that.
