As big as a television? Wow. That means you could set one of these babies in your living room and almost forget that it was there (probably weighs considerably more than a TV since it's solid electronics, but still).

I did see that. Obviously, it isn't going to use the number of processors that this one did, but the interesting statement is the "...consoles due out next year" part. There was speculation that this has something to do with NIntendo's big surprise for E3, or that Nintendo will be releasing the "N5" next year. It will probably have something to do with the product, but I think the "N5" will only be shown, not released next year. In a later Gamespot article, it was stated that the "...consoles due out next year" line was speculation on Reuter's part. Correction or coverup?

Actually, I meant the part about the consoles being confirmed to be released in 2004, not so much the part of a supercomputer being the size of a tv
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - IBM Corp. (NYSE:IBM - news) said on Friday that it has built a supercomputer the size of a television based on microchip technology to be used in gaming consoles due out next year.
uhh... you beat me to it, thanks Fluke

IBM has done a lot of things recently to try to turn the company around and making a profit again, and signing deals to make processors like this for the next gen of consoles is one of their biggst planks. Go Big Blue!
