3rd party gamecube controllers

I am getting a gamecube for xmas and need additional controllers. I originally wanted name brand controllers but the 3rd party ones are soooooo cheap on e-bay. has anybody had any problems with 3rd party gamecube controllers or with rediculously cheap auctions for the formentioned items?

I think that you get what you pay for, honestly.

We have plenty of 3rd party controllers for all systems returned for being defective. Usually it's just a busted button, but I've seen some come back with analog sticks that have come off their tracks.

Just avoid Nyko/Gamester products and you should be okay.

In my repair business I often see blown controller blocks, damaged controller sockets. When I ask if they use third party controllers, the answer is always 'yes'.

I'm no Sony, Nintendo, or MS fanboy, but, in my opinion, if you value your hardware, avoid third party controllers, at the very least the cheapest ones. When I put a new controller block in someone's PS2 for $50, they didn't save that much after all did they? And it's even more money if you send it back to Sony/MS/ or Nintendo.

Personally, I won't buy third-party GC controllers anymore - the analogue stick just doesn't compare to the original which is superb. If someone can point me in the direction of an equal stick, I'd like to see it

When I'm recommending controllers to folks, I ALWAYS recommend the first-party stuff first, and if they don't want that I always go to Mad Catz next, because I've only ever had one Mad Catz product mess up on me (that being a N64 controller, but even the first party efforts there weren't that great). Maybe the best reason to go with first party controllers is the feel. Once you get used to a shape, it's very difficult to use a similar but different pad.

Yeah, I prefer first party.
But if you have to go Mad Catz, In fact I liked MC's controllers for my PS1 better than I did sonys.

Well, I hooked up the old N64 again. Ah, Mario 64, Wave Race...

Now, those of who still use their N64s know that over time, the control sticks begin to deteriorate. Rather than keep buying originals and beating the hell out of them, I'd like to get a good aftermarket pad instead.

So, DP crew, what's the best third-party N64 controller out there? I'd like it to be as close to the original in style as possible, and I don't need any turbo/slowmo/macro stuff (simpler the better).

Any thoughts?

By the way, as far as Cube controllers go, I will never give up my Wavebird -- and I'll probably buy another pretty soon.
