Default How do you hold it? hehehe

When I played the NES, I always held the controller in my left hand resting on my right leg. This way I could hit A & B with my two fingers instead of using my thumb.

I'm playing SMBA4 SMB3 and I can't hold the GBA this way so I'm finding it hard to play. Does everyone else use their right thumb to hit both A & B?

No, I always held the NES controller upside down so I could do the opposite.

I only used my right thumb to hit the a+b but when I was playing Final Fight 3 once for no apparent reason I decided to flip the controller and play.Needless to say I almost was playing as good as I would playing with the controller right side up.

It would depend on the situation.
I held it square to play normally.
But when a burst of button smashing speed was needed I
would hold it down to the ground and turn it verticle to get a better angle
    at button mashing.

I hold it more than I should...

Okay, let's get serious. I sometimes hold my NES controller so my thumb presses A and B. Sometimes, I let my index and middle digits do the work. I can easily switch between both styles on the fly. The NES is still the most comfortable controller for me, growing up on it and all.

I hole the NES controller so I can manipulate the d-pad with 2 fingers on my left hand, and I use my index and middle fingers on my right hand for the buttons...

Thumbs support the pad on the underside...

When you guys play the GBA do you use your right thumb for both the a and b button? I can't seem to control some games well, especially mario games.

I adopted the two fingers on the A and B buttons method for Mega Man. Jump and shoot, over and over. In fact, I ended up getting the Capcom SNES controller that's designed specifically for that kind of play. The X series never saw it coming!

I'm a thumbs man all the way. I can't use my actual fingers for anything when it comes to using a controller. In fact, when playing Mortal Kombat on the Genesis, during the Test Your Might sequence, I use both thumbs on A and C and then to actually smash I use my nose to press start. (At least when it comes to Diamond, thats the only one where I can't shift my thumb from A or C to start fast enough without losing strength)

My finger handicap has also prevented me from EVER using a PSX controller gracefully if the L and R buttons were necessacry. (Tho the Dreamcast felt wicked with the trigger style and the GC is great too since they're so low and wide.)
