Default Sega CD with faulty memory

First, a hearty FUCK YOU to Autobotracing.

So I have this Sega CD 2 that wouldn't hold a save after powerwas cut off, and I swapped out the battery with a new one a couple months back. It still wouldn't save, so I'm guessing something's blown on the mobo or whatever. Any suggestions before I dive back into it?

I think I remember you posting about this one. Sounds outta my league. Only thing I can think of is to follow the traces from the batt to see where they go, and start checking for problems.

I'd like to hear how this pans out. I hope the mem chip isn't fried or something.

Yeah, we exchanged PMs over it. I found your pictures to be helpful in that it confirmed the Sega CD did have board revisions and variations.

If the memory chip could be identified (I never really looked for it yet) I wouldn't be a'scared of replacing it.

I've never looked inside a sega cd, but I'd guess that it's just a standard SRAM chip... if you can get the model number of it (and package tyep), you should be able to order one online, or maybe take one from a video game cartridge. More than likely it's a surface mount chip, so it might be a pain to do if you're not great with a soldering iron, but if you take your time and are careful, you should be able to do it.
