    Default Xbox DVD Playback question...

So, from what I understand, if I were to purchase a Region 2 DVD Playback Kit for my Xbox (having never used a Region 1 DVD Playback Kit), my Xbox will from there on out play Region 2 DVDs, regardless of the fact I purchased the Xbox itself in the USA. Correct?

I don't think thats how it works. I think it all depends on the kit. It doesn't installs anything. I have never tried to use a region 2 kit though. Well they do make the dvd region x thing so then you can play any dvd.

Update to a post no one cares about: I called Xbox Customer Support, and they verified that the DVD Playback Kit actually encodes your Xbox to the region you bought the kit in (i.e. a Japanese Playback Kit would encode your USA Xbox to DVD Region 2). Coolio.

Does the kit also allow you to play dvd-r's on your Xbox? That's the feature I'm most concerned about. Most stand-alone dvd players have the option of disabling the region encoding with a remote control hack, which is what I've done with mine. But it won't play dvd-r's though.
