Default Problems playing PAL Rez on a U.S. Dreamcast...

    Hi guys,

I have searched the earlier threads on this subject, but I must not be doing this right. I bought my first import game today, a PAL Rez for Dreamcast. I've tried using the Gameshark Lite disc to boot it up, but when I get to the menu that says "please ensure the game disc is in the drive and select OK to continue," the machine freezes. Am I not doing this right? Can somebody here walk me through this process step-by-step, or does the Gameshark Lite not work with Rez? Thanks.

I've never had any trouble playing my Japanese Rez using the Utopia boot-disc, on a TV. I don't know whether or not I've tried it using my Gameshark. (Might be Lite - it's an orange and white DVD-style case.)

OTOH, I've NEVER been able to get Rez to play on my PC Monitor through my VGA box, no matter what I try.

I don't recall the VGA box brand - it's at home and I'm at work right now. I think it's this one:

    Good luck,

There are two different pressings of PAL Rez - the first ones (distributed largely through Big Ben Interactive in the UK) are known to be more difficult to play on a non-PAL machine, while the second pressing, sold throughout Europe, are easier to play on a US machine. [note - I think that's right, it might be the other way around].
The best DC boot-disk, at least in Europe, is the DC-X disc. As far as I know, this will play every DC game on any region machine. Just wish I could find one . (I've got Utopia and Gameshark, and the only game I've had that wouldn't run with either of those was the US Smash Pack)

From what I remember, the later releases would not work with a boot disc. That info is from reading newsgroups and other sites. This is why I never bought it. If you can get one from the first run it should work. How do you tell... got me?!?

The matrix code on the disc [not the part #] should indicate which run it is. I've got a 1st run copy, so I'll check that and post it later.

    Import forum! IMPORT FORUM! :P

And yeah, it works fine with a Utopia boot disc. I've never had a problem running it.

I've got quite a number of DC imports, and have never had much luck using the GameShark Lite as a boot disc. I've used the Utopia boot disc and the DC Xploder without problems however.

    Guys,

I finally got Rez working using a Gameshark Cheats 'N Codes Vol. 1 disc. I remembered that I bought a few when Gamestop cleared them out. Just put it in, swapped Rez, started it with no codes, and voila! I don't get it, though. The Gameshark Lite disc still freezes. I guess it just sucks.

Anyway, thanks for all your help!
